1987 2wd front coil springs, who's got em?
Hi everybody, I am having a difficult time finding new coil springs for the front end on my 87 2wd wagon. Was there some kind of change from 86 to 87? I can find them for 86 and older, but no 87's. I tried the dealership, butler, and every parts house for miles around.... Help! Are the 87's actually different than the 86's? The dealer gave me these #'s 4813116251 and 4813116231. thank you........... Chris

welcome to the list!
I do not think the '87 wagons are different, the wagon body style was the same since '83. The 2 and 4 door sedans completely changed over in '87 from the 86 (completely new design, transverse engine, and even uglier body style). I am surprised they had the wagon available in 2wd for 1987, they continued to the '88 model year with the 4x4 wagon on same chassis as the '83 style. In '88 they introduced the Corolla All-trac AWD wagon and discontinued the Tercel4wd which ended that body style.
It is possible that many of the parts listings do not have a 2wd Wagon for '87, so do not show a spring application. Do you have the composite headlights? You might double check what year your car was made by looking at the metal data plate on the driver's side door jamb. Now that I think of it I have seen a 2wd '87 wagon in a wrecking yard, and it had the composite headlights that only came in the '87-88 wagons.
The springs for the '86 should be identical, I have switched struts from year to year, they are the same.

Thank You Petros, for your welcome and reassurance. My search for parts is over, for now. Our Red wagon has the composite headlights and was built in the "first month of 1987" quote thy dealer. It has taken us from WI to AZ and back again. The vibration goes away when the speedo is at 86

The only difference in Wagon front springs, whether 2WD or 4WD, is a slightly stiffer one for cars equipped with AC.

Well the new shocks and springs are in. Holy cow what a difference! The front end sits a good three inches higher now. Feels pretty stiff, and now a brake caliper is sticking, so I think It's time for an upgrade...

Good for you. No point in replacing the brake parts with the stock ones, too small, go for the up grade here: http://www.tercel4wd.com/forums/viewtop ... f=7&t=4998
