Can you help me identify this part

Hi Everyone,

I am a new owner of an 85 4WD tercel, which needs a little work done. I don't really know anything about mechanics, but I am starting to teach myself. Can you please help me identify this part in the attached pictures. The part in question attaches to to where the air filter is housed. The issue, as you can see from the picture is that it is badly cracked. Also, there is a hose that comes out from the bottom that is cracked and no longer attaches to an opening under where the the air filter is housed.

So my questions are: what is the part? Can I buy a new one from Napa or do I need to head to a junkyard? Also, what does this do? In terms of the cars engine it's self? I noticed a little oil up where the air filter is. Could this be the cause?

The hose that attaches to the heat stove on the ex manifold is a 'yota specific diameter, so dealer or JY for that. The plastic part with the hot air intake control valve in it is best sourced form a JY also.

As far as the oil up in the air filter housing goes you might really benefit from a pcv catch can or two. Unless there is some kind of state inspection you have to pass the car will run fine just the way it is. I have disabled my heat riser tube (it draws warm air from the exhaust manifold) to keep the intake air within a narrow temperature range, assisting in keep emissions lower. But warm air on the intake lowers the maxium power the engine produces and will lower the fuel economy slightly, so that is why I disabled mine, and have it drawing air from the long plastic intake that come from next to the head light.

If you want to repair it - I got the corrugated tube from AutoZone back in '05 (before Weber); it was a stock size, although I forget the diameter (just measure it).
As far as fixing the cleaner's snorkel base -try JB Weld. I did that on my '88 Dodge/Mitsu p'up's snorkel years ago and it still works!

my tercel carb ices over when the heat is disconnected. usually on cold wet mornings between 30 and 34 degrees
maybe if you live where its warmer it would not be a problem to disconnect it?

my "72 ford courier had a manually operated flapper built into the air filter housing that i often forgot to switch to the "COLD" setting before winter started.
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.
