Looking for a transmission

Post by baker2121 »

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for an automatic transmission for our 85 4WD wagon. Let me know if you have one lying around or if you might have seen one in a junkyard.

Thanks!

There is one in a wrecking yard here in Arlington, WA. It is a self-service yard, so if you get it yourself it would be inexpensive, the car only has about 80,000 miles on it too. You need to move on it pretty fast because it has been there for a number of months and it will be going to the crusher soon.

Where are you at?

Surely time for a conversion to a 6SP? You know it makes sense!

The auto tran in the local pull-a-part has now gone to the crusher, I stopped in and checked it today. Auto trans versions are not very common, so this 4wd trans will be harder to find than the manual trans.

My suggestion is the same as St6fan, get a donor car and switch it over to manual trans. More power, better fuel economy, more reliable. You will need a lot of detail parts besides the manual trans, clutch, throwout bearing, pilot bearing and flywheel, clutch and brake pedal group and cable, drive shaft, rear mount, differencial, center console and shift levers.

Thanks for checking. I couldn't afford the cost of doing a full conversion as we will have to pay a mechanic to do the work. I found a couple on car-parts.com for around $250 and we'll be driving pass 3 of the locations over the holidays so we'll pick one of those ups.

Thanks again!
