One Ford Fiesta I would like to own!
I thought you guys would get a kick out of this, a very hot 650hp turbo charged 4wd Ford Fiesta! Quite a skilled driver as well. You just gotta see this.
So where can we get a 4wd Fiesta? The Europeans get all the cool cars. Say, anyone think they could make their Tercel4wd perform like this? It would take an engine swap, but with an unlimited budget it would be fun to give this guy a run for his money!

WOW ! ! !
With the stripes, the front of that car has a really feral and menacing appearance! I'd give it my wallet if approached in a dark alley.
Fascinating video! I thought the sparks at the end were a clever pyrotechnic effect - and then saw the wheels.
I wonder how zebra stripes would look on a TOPAZ T4WD? Now, if my numbers come up on Powerball or MegaMillions tonight, maybe Goldie could get a transfusion...
I had not realized that historic Montlhéry was still around. It was quite the venue for many years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autodrome_ ... lh%C3%A9ry
MG had a very notable model named after the circuit back in 1931 - a wowser of a car! Love that boattail and fishtail Brooklands exhaust on this green one! http://y2u.co.uk/&002_Images/MG_01.htm
Thanks!

About the only way he can drive it that way is because it has enough power to keep all 4 wheels spinning...otherwise it would always be transitioning between stuck and loose? Yea...we need to outfit all our "ricers" with those.
I'd like to drive something like that before I die...probably on the day I die?

wow indeed. i don't usually give a sh*t about this sort of thing but you're right petros, he actually is an excellent driver. the whole thing looks very artistically done. i like when he spins around the nerd on the segway, that's mind-blowing.

He quit driving Subaru? He has other vids. Just think of the rubber($) he goes thru.
For what that car is worth you could probably have a mint T4 and a brand new Vette. Then watch the panties fly!
Maybe DQ would sponsor one of our cars for a fast a furious makeover. haha

Europeans deserve them. American drivers can't figure out how to parallel park, just imagine the carnage with 700hp cars on every street.Petros wrote:So where can we get a 4wd Fiesta? The Europeans get all the cool cars.

Re: One Ford Fiesta I would like to own!
I hate those segways! Nerd indeed. What fool would pay all that money to ride to places you can walk faster and cheaper? As if they are saving the planet riding around in an overpriced scooter instead of walking, or riding a pair of roller blades or something more fun, faster and cheaper. Gives me an idea for a Youtube skit of having a bunch of "bully" H2s mash into the mud some Segways nerds.davidlucasbarnes wrote:i like when he spins around the nerd on the segway, that's mind-blowing.
Still that Fiesta haunts me day and night. What would it take to make our Tercel perform like that?!?! Cutting out the whole suspension front and back, rebuild with custom struts, 4 wheel disk brakes, fully blown 4age, or something even bigger? What to do about the trans, the trans, the trans....
Oh well, one can only dream and fantasize.

Would need aftermarket tilt-o-meter as well. That banked circuit is at 51° and i'm pretty sure we are limited to 30°. That is beautifully filmed he does seem to tap the car into the fence a couple of times (i.e first corner and when they do the interior shot) but when he shreds the tyres at the end the car seems to have no damage at all

Re: One Ford Fiesta I would like to own!
it appears the tire hit on that first turn, it leaves a black mark on the wall. I am not sure what the point of shredding the tires was about, that must be over $1000 worth of tires, and more than that for the wheels that were also likely trashed.
The tilt-o-meter should not peg because your speed should counteract the angle, that is the point of the bank turn. Of course that would mean much more power than 62hp. But good point, with a proper suspension and tires our cars should handle much more than 30 deg. I guess they want to warn you before you exceed the limit of the whimpy wheels and tires that comes on the car, for birdwatching of course.

Re: One Ford Fiesta I would like to own!
The more I watch the more curious this becomes. I do not see a lot of cameras hanging off the car as all the camera angles shown in the clips. this must be a composite of a number of runs, different camera angles, etc. and cleaver editing.
That engine sure sounds crappy, it sounds like it is missing or something at top end, is that the effects of really agressive cam? Our Turbo Nissan 300ZX back in the 1980s put out over 900hp and did not sound like that, similar power output for the engine size as this engine, and it was smooth and powerful. WE also did not get all the pops and flames coming out of the exhaust, either this extra rich mixture was done for the video, or they do not now how to set up the engine. It that the way modern high performance engines sound? I have not kept up with the latest developments. That does not sound like a healthy engine to me. If I drove my car on the street and it sound like that I would have to see what was wrong when I got home.
And what are those flashing LEDs on the instrument panel? It appears he is shifting off the finger lever on the steering wheel (under his right fingers) and the gear shows on the green read out on the center dash. The aluminum lever in the center (where the shift lever normally would be) is a differential turning brake, looks like forward locks one rear wheel, and back locks the other. I have used such a device, and have actually driven most of those maneuvers he does (though a much lower speeds!) in a $500 dune buggy with an aircooled VW motor. I used the steering brake to initiate drifts and tight turns on the slippery sandy faces of the dunes. Lots of fun and much cheaper than this Fiesta!
I wonder what the top speed he reaches on this course. It looks fast, but such a small car always looks fast.

Re: One Ford Fiesta I would like to own!
The cutting out at high revs that you are hearing is the rev limiter keeping the engine from over speeding when he is doing the massive tire burning stunts. He is just keeping the throttle planted. Since we are not seeing a bunch of pops & flames when the rev limiter engages, I'm guessing that the rev limiter works by cutting the fuel, not the ignition.Petros wrote:

As far as the pops and flames go, I'll bet that the computer shuts off the ignition for a moment when the paddle shifters are in use. Once again keeping the throttle down and letting the electronics do the work. Also makes for less of the turbo spooling down while shifting. Most high end racing paddle shifting trannys, and even on some street cars, are internally actually two separate trannys & clutches. One of the trannys will deal with the even # gears and the other will have the odd # gears. The car could also have been set up to cut fuel when shifting but then it would not make the cool pyrotechnic display,

Sounds like 650hp. The builders of this car don't give a rat's shoulder concerning the exhaust sound. All go, no show as race cars should be.Petros wrote:That engine sure sounds crappy
Even some non paddle shifter low-buck new cars do this now. A friend of mine just leased a 2011 Cobalt SS, which are now turbo'ed vice the previous superchargered version. If you tell the computer to use "speed shift mode" it will maintain the revs when shifting to eliminate turbo lag. It also has a "launch mode" where it holds the revs at 5200 (with the tranny in first and throttle floored) because that is supposedly the best rpm for the elusive grip/wheelspin balance. Since the car is still in its break in mode he hasn't been able to report on how well it works. He's an experienced amateur racer, but I may just have to verify it myself.4wdchico wrote:the computer shuts off the ignition for a moment when the paddle shifters are in use. Re: One Ford Fiesta I would like to own!
I thought I would make a conceptual Tercel to give this fiesta a run for its money. I took the picture from the cover of the owners manual and did some alterations to it.
Stage three is the top one (unlimited budget), stag two is the middle one, and stock is the bottom one. Well, what do you all think? Ready to get started?

Re: One Ford Fiesta I would like to own!
Petros, there you go again with those composite headlights! If I had deep pockets, I would shove a Toyota 2JZ-GE (I-6 3.0L) from a Lexus IS-300 and twin-turbo it, or a 3S-GTE and twin-turbo that, not too sure of what the power output would be. It would require all of the suspension and modifications to the unibody, and as for the transmission I would probably find a way to use a sequential 6 speed straight-cut dog box like the kind the WRC cars use and this Fiesta uses, along with the accompanying front and rear limited slip differentials. I'm sure with all of this (and of course a lot of other creative modifications), this T4WD would sure give this Fiesta a run for its money...
