victoria bc meet-up

Post by dlb »

it appears there are a few of us on here from southern vancouver island and homeskool suggested we have a meet-up/tercel bs sesh/beer. i'm fully down, so even if it's only a few of us it would still be rad to finally have someone to talk about about this f-ing obsession of mine--god knows my fiancee has heard enough about my inclinometer.

so do saturday or sunday evenings work? i live in shawnigan but come into vic on sunday for band practice. how about 5 pm on sunday, may 16th at... uh, i dunno. where's a good pub with a parking lot? it would be cool if there was a big parking lot so we could check out each others tercs without having to convoy around to parkades. any ideas?

I am totally in for a meet up as well, Not into the beer thing anymore but I love coffee. So maybe we could meet at one of the 1000's of coffee shops in this town. What ever is decided I can make happen and will make sure to have GTSspotcoupes old car show up too. I now belongs to my good friend Kevin and is just as built as mine. It is too bad this was not a month ago as two of my friends that had tercels were both sent to the wrecker in the last 3 weeks. Don't worry I pillaged both of them for anything useful 8) both ran and drove but one got a inspection notice and the other cooked a head gasket. :(

So just let me know what works out sunday evenings sound good.

coffee is good for me too. how about QV's on gov't and fisgard? they've got a small parking lot but there's lots of street parking and sunday evening shouldn't be too busy.

a head gasket is NOT a reason to junk a good Tercel4wd! I can fix that in 3 hours and $20 for a new gasket. If it was a rust bucket or crushed in an accident, than maybe.

The head gasket was the end of a long list of major problems. that tercel had been cobbled back together so many times and was on it's third motor, second trans and the owner finally just said F**K it.
There are literally so many of these cars up here, that seeing one or two disappear to the big highway in the sky is not a big deal. I know of at least 7 right now in various states of repair/disrepair that I could have for less then $200, they are literally everywhere. There are three sitting in a field less then 10 min from where Davidlucasbarnes lives. all of them run two of them drive.

I was offered both of the last ones that went to scrap for free and I turned them down because parts/cars are so plentiful.. I pillaged some of the good parts but really they were pretty complete. What I have learned is you can't save them all, So I have to let them slip past sometimes.

barto, where are those 3 tercs in a field you mentioned? i'm actually thinking about getting a third beater so that my fiancee and i can take one of our vehicles off the road to do repairs but not have to borrow the gas-guzzling isuzu trooper off her parents--i f-ing hate that thing. if i could find a beat up 4wd terc that at least runs, that would be rad!

i saw one on craigslist in sooke a month back. i think it was an '84 and it was a small picture but it looked MINT. they wanted $1000 for it, i wonder where it went.

I can give you the guys contact info when we have a meet, my third tercel came from him. Really nice guy had a major obsession at one point in his life and is now having to clear out, hopefully they are still there.
Maybe I'll call him tomorrow and find out.

hey homeskool. bart and i met up but i know there are a few other board members around here. new member sunray just got a terc, i'm interested to see how it's doing. mine will be all painted by next week and i'm sure i'll want to show everyone so maybe sometime late september? i'll have to see how my schedule pans out in the next few days.

i noticed you had some rust behind your rear right wheel well a while ago but saw it recently and it looked like you fixed it up. did you do it yourself?

Yo davidlucasbarnes.
If we tried to all do somthing at the end of sept I'm game.

Thanks for noticing my wheel well rust. heh. It's a mild inside joke with a friend of mine how everyone has nice comments on my car but latly everyone just notices the small amounts of rust I'm starting to get.... heh. But man, when it's all yellow you sure do notice any inperfections. I did "try" to do the body work myself. I took care of it about 3 months ago or so. I was proud of myself and was sure I did a great job. But already where I primed and painted it's starting to bubble threw again. Overall my paint job is still in fairly good shape. So I'm trying to catch the rust quickly so I have minor cosmedtic imperfections in the paint lines opossed to watching it bubble up with rust then needing to repaint the entire car sooner than planned. Next time you see it if you look close enough at the gas cap area you'll see my touchup paint lines. I used my dremel to carve out the rust around my gas cap. It was rotted threw in many places. I used JB weld apposed to any bondo. It dries really hard and seems to be just as hard as metal. It's more expensive but I don't want to use any bondo on my car ever if possible. :D

I was able to warm up on doing body work on my Girlfriends 2wd tercel because I just did a full paint job on it. I still have not posted any pictures of that job. I'll try to do that this weekend. Not that anyone will care toooo much since it's a 2wd and not a 4wd.

I don't work at the computer store Sundays or Mondays, So those days work best for me. Or of course a weekday evening is okay. But we are losing light fast and it might be nicer to do it in the daytime so we can checkout eachothers cars in more detail. 8)

sorry to be part of the rust comment crowd, i was actually impressed because it was all gone the next time i saw your terc! i'd love to see pics of your paint job on your gf's 2WD terc. my car is almost all done and i'm so f'ing pumped to get it back and drive it again. i don't know how everyone else will feel about it but i love it. pics very soon.

agreed on the daylight meeting. what time do you work till on saturdays? how about the afternoon of saturday sept. 25th? if you're down i'll get in touch with barto, sunray, and see who else they know who would be down.
