Got it back from the mechanics. They think I have a warped exhaust valve, but they're just diagnosing via how it's running crappy and the import guy can hear a sound that sounds like a warped exhaust valve.

That's a lot of work to get it fixed. I might as well go for a larger engine(4age) if I was going to do that. But I've been thinking about just scrapping the terk. Why upgrade the engine in a vehicle with so much rust. And I have another 4x4 vehicle for bad weather. A Ford f250.

But then again for the money I can spend($3k) I can only really get something as new as a 92 toyota or honda. So maybe I just need to try and do an engine swap.

Maybe it will help me decide if I list the positives and negatives.

Positives to a new car purchase
______________________________________
1. I could get an automatic transmission.
2. Instead of paying to later on fix the AC($500 more in work) I could buy a car that has working AC.
3. Some 92's have airbags.
4. The wagon also needs a new windshield, rear window washer nozzle, cruise control fixed, radiator, and heater control panel.

Negatives to a new car purchase
______________________________________
1. You never know what sort of new problems you might run into.
2. It would take all of my money up front. I could instead trickle out the fixes over a few months if I fix the wagon.
3. The $400 I just invested in a new catalytic convertor and coolant fixes would be wasted money.

I don't know. This hasn't helped me much. I'm still undecided.

I wouldn't be financing it. And I don't think a 92 yota's going to cost much more than a 85 'yota. In fact, with the safety enhancements it may even be cheaper.

on the other hand there is a junkyard in Minnesota who would ship me an engine for $450. but they don't have the ecu or the fuel components I'd need.
