I'm pretty sure a strong gust of wind could kick this ass. Other than the cure, I never understood the appeal of this kind of music. But then I've been known to listen to Death/Black Metal, so take with a grain of salt eh.

I've got that track in mp3...OK. Can't really decipher the lyrics...but the song is OK. Drugs are OK too...as long as they increase the profits of the drug companies...who employ lots of lobbyists...and buy many legislators.

It doesn't qualify as music if there is no guitar.

i gave it a listen but didn't dig it. i've never heard it before, was it really a hit? joy division was way better.

brenton, i was chatting with one guy on here a little while ago about 80's thrash like slayer, voivod, destruction, etc. i love all kinds of music (the cure is actually one of my favourites!) but metal is definitely my forte. what black/death are you into? i went to the maryland deathfest last year to catch bolt thrower, atheist, pestilence, brutal truth, and napalm death, among others. it was AMAZING!

incidentally, i had a metal band called MOTHER DIED TODAY that i just put an end to a few weeks ago. sort of melodic doom/death, people often said we sounded like opeth or older amorphis. we were active for about the last 3 or 4 years, toured western canada several times, made a few recordings, sold all the shirts/stickers/booty shorts merch. if you dig metal you should give it a listen, here's the myspace:

David, Wow! You guys are/were VERY good! At first listen, reminds me much of the Nordic traditional infused bands like FinnTroll and TYR (from the Faroe Islands of all places!!) My DM/BM favs are: 1349, Gorgoroth, DeathChain, Hate Eternal, Darkthrone, Marduk (esp. when Legion fronted them) Naglafar and a few more staples. I lean toward the more uncompromising black metal strain (I hate my metal watered down) though serious and everlasting hails to all things Slayer who somehow have done the near impossible: become, stayed and deserve popular appeal (by metal standards) while NEVER watering down their music or sound. Christ Illusion is some of the heaviest thrash ever recorded, and that's only a few years ago. My other end of musical taste lands at celtic, traditonal, folk stuff, esp. songs about Newfoundland and old fishing cultures. Great Big Sea (from St. Johns) is an exellent example. So much good music comes from Canada IMHO (Great Lakes Swimmers, BNL's, Stomping Tom, etc.) I think it's because musicans can survive, and are okay with mere survival, and find a small but supportive crowd up there that somehow gets buried down here in "winner takes all" 10 million sold or your dropped sentiment. CBC does a great job of keeping local talent heard and exposed. I even heard a 1st nations only billboard countdown on the radio last week. I had no idea there were so many musicians that would fall under such a heading. And of course you guys have: Cryptosy, Frozen and Despised Icon to name a few harder bands.

I was a drummer in a band over in Marquette, Mi (da UP) for a good couple years called "Con:Sump:Tion" and we played shows, burned a CD and sold a few T's. I bolted from the band when I moved to Duluth. They're still going with a young punk-style drummer who gets the job down, but isn't "metal" in my opinion (single bass pedal for example) It was a blast creating the music and the few shows we got a large crowd for, but the music scene there was very limited, and metal is rarely supported (unless your big and tour large cities) I suppose it's not the reason to play metal or music in general, but one likes to be appreciated eh :) It's also a bummer that so few females like hard music, though it makes perfect sense.

I do still play drums in a porn-grind'ish sort of band a la "Anal Cunt" called "mAss gRape (or Ass Rape depending on who's censoring us) :)

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... =105748264

We played a camp show a couple weeks ago, including our hits: "I Bought You a Drink (you owe me sex)" and "Too Drunk to Shoot Cops" :) Some vids should be up over there. Oh, and don't mind the "we hate hippies" thing. That's Andy the guitar guy. We're all hippies! (and we do probably hate ourselves often) :) If you look closely you'll spot my tercel in the background :) We were drunk off our asses by stage time.

Being Canadian, have you ever heard of a metal band called "Devastator" from St. John's NFL? I caught them at a city wide arts fest, matched up with a bunch of other low key and alt-bands. They keyed up and straight up emptied the room, except me and about 20 other die hards. Loud, corpse-painted and awesome! :)

Okay, well you can see I can go on and on about this eh. I wish you lived closer, I really need to just move to Canada.

dave, you just made my day. i LOVE yelling. i have to admit we were better live though. there are some vids on youtube you should look up if you're ever bored. oh and snakes vocals on that album you sent me are his best. i've never heard him do screams like that, they're throat-ripping!

brenton, i only heard a few tracks from christ illusion but wasn't psyched. i mean, i'm thrilled lombardo is back with the band, but slayer just doesn't do it for me anymore. i still love south of heaven and reign in blood though. i actually think divine intervention and diabolus in musica are two great slayer albums, even though the band and fans alike don't really dig those ones. but you're right: slayer has become an institution and that is amazing, especially considering how extreme they've always been.

what sucks about making music in canada is that as a touring band it's difficult to make touring profitable due to the long distances between major cities. the simple fuel costs are enormous. i'm pretty detail-oriented though and managed to not only keep us from losing money as a band through touring, but even came away with profit from our last tour, which is a pretty big deal considering we were a death metal band. there's no money in this music no matter what level you're at (don't even mention slipknot to me) so i'm pretty proud we did even that well. cbc is rad, hey? i'm a big fan. and i've seen cryptopsy a few times, they were fine but whatevs. a lot of people flip for great drummers but i flip for great songs that make me pump my fist and feel united with my metal brethren.

A.C.! so classic. i've got "everyone should be killed" on CD but have never listened to it all the way through. have you heard the latest agoraphobic nosebleed? it's PUNISHING. i love it but can only take a few tracks at a time, it's that intense. speaking of which, they have a girl singer! she's brutal, super rad. i haven't heard of devastator, great name though. reminds me of those decepticon transformers that combined to form the tone big robot. oh boy, "too drunk..." will turn some heads, that's a hilarious title. hopefully everyone realizes it's a joke! i like the blasts on r*** the earth, those are rad. double kick is not an option for metal drummers. what do you mean, a camp show? like out in the woods using generators?

believe me, i could go on too. but at the very least it brings me supreme joy to know that other tercel enthusiasts are also metal enthusiasts... who could ask for more!

immortal is wicked! great album by them, though i always think of kiss when i see the cover. it's the shin guards i think.

i've seen 1349 a few times, the first time was the best. they opened for celtic frost and i was blown away by how true they were. i know that sounds like elitist BM talk but they do take their stuff seriously and that's refreshing.

naglafar doesn't do it for me i'm afraid but i'm pretty picky about metal these days. generally if i'm not blown away in the first 30 seconds i skip it. i'm sure i miss out on some good stuff but hell, there's just not enough time to give everything a real shot. i've recently got in akercocke and virgin steele though, they both impressed me quite a bit.

David, you're lucky to have caught 1349! I was on my way to the CF/1349 show a couple summers ago with my then girlfriend. she chickened out (I should have never taken her) so....I'll wait for my next chance. :)

I did see Cattle Decapitation a couple months ago. I wasn't impressed. They came on an hour late, did 5 songs (they were long songs) and left. Didn't even honor the small but loyal crowd to do an encore. Good unique approach to extreme metal though. I was hoping they'd get all preachy about veganism and animal rights. NOTHING!!

David, we're going to meet someday, I can feel it :)

you didn't miss out on celtic, i was bored. i love a lot of their stuff but they're not an engaging live act. 1349 was the hit. i'm not a cattle decap. fan. seen them, it was fine but again, nothing mind-blowing. met the singer, he wasn't very cool. same with dan lilker from brutal truth. sorta bummed that such a metal legend was so curt with a fan. tony choy from atheist/pestilence was so friendly and kind though, as were all the bolt thrower cats, danny herrera from napalm death, the bass player from asphyx. terrance from suffocation. gene hoglan of death/syl/numerous other bands, devin townsend. my band played several shows with city of fire, a new band featuring byron of syl and fear factory and burton c. bell of fear factory. it was unreal to spend so much time chilling with those guys, talking about the cult and the police. they were very cool. i know 3 inches of blood quite well and we played with them a lot too. met 3/4s of type o negative a few years back through 3 inches, that was surreal. type o is one of my favourite bands of all time. saw behemoth in a small venue on the demigod tour, that was one of the best shows i've ever seen. so tight, so heavy, so professional! i love the police (the band) and saw them on the second date of their reunion tour, that one is tied with behemoth for best live show i've seen. saw overkill a few months ago, i can't believe that bobby blitz is now 51 (or 52, can't remember) and has survived cancer and a stroke, and is STILL totally cut, screaming his face off, playing thrash metal and doing it better than ever before. their new album might be their best, in my opinion. truly inspiring.

we just might meet! there's clearly a lot of metal and tercel love to be shared. i'll give you a heads up if we roadtrip to your neck of the woods sometime.
