I just saw another new (to me, anyway) DQ commercial!
The car is tailgating the BlizzardMobile and the kids are arguing about who is closer to the the BM. Dad says Mom is and the camera pans away to show Mom perched on the hood just feet away from the truck, hair flying in the wind.
Odd, though...
tercel4wdrules had posted a sale note on the wagon a while ago, and it was silver, whereas the car in the photos is definitely gold (OK - topaz). I thought it odd that the ad agency would paint it gold then go back to silver. Then I realized that the gold would show up better in the scenes than the silver. Hmmm - OK.
Then I noticed in the new ad that the interior shots showed the upholstery to be the blue color, which was not available on the gold cars. Hmmm...
So - maybe a gold car was used for the exterior shots for contrast to the scenery and the silver car of tercel4wdrule's note was used for interior shots? Seems odd, but...
Another T4WD mystery, I guess...

They have that commercial now up on YouTube. My friend noticed something interesting in the commercials that feature close up shots of the kids in the back. In the latest commercial, you can see they have shoulder belts on. They are not attached to anything visible, I wonder why they did that, other than for showing the Blizzman's as responsible parents and ensuring their offspring are safe and are wearing their seat belts at all times. In the second to last commercial, it appears the boy just had the center lap belt thrown over his shoulder. However, in the last commercial both kids have them on, so I suppose they must have used another belt. In addition, if you look closely, you can see the belt on the boy quickly fall off during a portion of the scene, what a failure. It's fun to watch for discontinuities in these commercials.

ARCHINSTL: It's the same car throughout the series. They repainted the silver car some sort of ivory color, looks more beige to me than gold. Hence, since this car was originally silver, it was going to have the blue SR5 interior, which it does. The silver car that was repainted has the blue interior in the pics that were in the ad. I heard that originally they were looking for 3 silver wagons, but I wish I had more details on their reasons for just using one instead of 3. I don't know why they didn't just use a car that had a brown interior to begin with, they could have used my gold '86 :D .

But - would you have wanted to have the interior filled with water and suds from the first (carwash) commercial?
Hmm - I wonder if the interior was completely dried out before selling the car...film companies are concerned with their product and not necessarily the means to deliver their product (figuratively as well as literally); they are notorious for lack of attention to cars.
I'll have to watch it again - still looks gold to me. Kudos on catching the seatbelt info - I'll have to watch them for that as well. Your analysis of safety concerns (for advertising) seems spot on!

I knew it! I'm sure the emblem they used was just swapped so it wouldn't scream "Toyota." That's something I'll have to tell my family :P

Kinda off track, but I had another T4wd sighting on TV. I was watching America's Most Armed 'n' Dangerous Home Videos the other night. There was a beige terc, prolly an early one, that was stolen by a teenager from his grandma. To her credit it was a 6 speed, which is also why the teen stalled it at least once. The car was chased by the police cops, and eventually it wrecked into the corner of a guardrail. Unfortunately one of the kids in the back seat was paralyzed as a result. Driver error.
It's a scientific fact that in a twin engine aircraft, when one engine fails there is always enough power in the remaining engine to make it all the way to the crash site.

Speaking of hiding the fact that it's a Toyota, one of the DQ YouTube ads shows a wrecked front end on a van, and they're implying in the video that the DQ family were involved in a crash. The Dad actually says "I didn't think a Tercel could do that much damage.. It's not on TV but at least they acknowledged the fact it's a Terc.

I just saw yet another new DQ ad (how many did they make?).
The Wagon is behind an idling BlizzardMobile. It's night. The kids are in the back seat, sleeping (with their shoulder belts across their chest, but attached to - what?). Mom and Dad are in the front, seat backs reclined all the way back, taking turns spooning out the contents of some ice cream dish, mentioning that they are "Baaad" - maybe for hiding it from the kids?
Dad says Mom is "Baaader," whereupon the camera is now in the right door opening as she slowly raises the seat back forward, followed by Dad with his.
The funny thing (well, to us anyway) - as the seat backs are rising, you hear the whirr of the seat back motors...

You might go to Facebook and do a Search for "Dairy Queen." Sorry that I cannot do it myself today, as I am housesitting for a daughter - and FB is blocked here because of a g-daughter's being (yet again) banned from it.
Last year there were at least five of the videos therein - worth a try, anyway. Some were pretty clever and all were marvelous, since the crass commercial message was rescued by our wonderful deus ex machina, the T4WD.

TOM- ive watched all the dairy queen ads - you can see its a terc in the clown one because of the gimpy rear side windows that a terc wagon has and no other vehicle has ,except maybe a single deck 65seater bus- enjoy the house sitting in very hot STlouis ps are the lower suspenion ball joints the same as on the old MR2- thanks DEC
