hood/bug deflector?
anybody know of any hood deflectors that fit our tercs? i've been calling around but none of the parts places have anything for tercels before 1991. i imagine that there must be some from other vehicles that would fit though--old toyota pickups look like they have a fairly similar hood to the terc's so i might measure them both up to see if a deflector could be interchangeable between them. has anyone else looked into this?

Re: hood/bug deflector?
GT Styling / GTS, one of the earlier companies making the plastic add-ons, used to have a listing for the clear/smoke headlight covers for the 87-88 4WD wagons, but I don't recall if they ever had a hood deflector for it.
A deflector for any vehicle with the same hood curvature between the headlights will work since they are almost always a drill-on application, but you might have to cut the ends to fit, then saw it up above the headlights..or leave it for a "eyelid" effect. I'd say older Japanese vehicles would be a prime choice, maybe try some Hondas, they made tons of stuff for those.
The deflectors are pretty much useless for anything other than preventing paint chips from road debris, though.

Re: hood/bug deflector?
thanks guys. animeracing, the paint chips are precisely what i want to protect against. i think deflectors look lame but f*** it, i noticed the last time i washed my terc that it has a few chips up there and with an impending paint job i want to protect it as best i can. i'll take a look at the local japanese import wrecker for one soon.
thanks for the offer xirdneh! i'll take a look for a deflector and if i can't find anything i might take you up on that. btw, a few weeks ago i realized while in a dream that your username is hendrix backwards. god only knows why my subconscious brain let my conscious brain know this at 5 am.

If you just want to protect against the paint chips (the front of these hoods do seem to get them), why not just use the 3M clear-bra protector film? You can probably pick up a scrap piece from a shop that installs them for free.
The only thing is, I've heard of installs that went bad, or where it peeled up the paint when it was eventually removed.
