Transmission Top Plate???

Post by rocha »

Hi all,

First post in the forum, but I've been reading it for a while. I will post my car once it is on the road, 83 Tercel SR5. Currently still driving my 83 Subaru Brat 4WD hi/lo around here in northern VT. I usually work on type1/type4 powered VWs and EA81 subies. Thanks in advance for the help.

I am looking for the 'top plate' for my transmission. I have not been able to locate the PN as I cannot find any parts diagrams. The part did not come with my car, it bolts to the top of the transmission and has both shift linkages going through it. So does anyone have a grenaded/junk transmission and could part with this plate. Let me know if so and how much. Thanks again!

The FSM available here as a download does have illustrations of the transmissions - but no part numbers.
The EPC available in this Forum as a sticky does have OE part numbers - but unfortunately the XLNT exploded drawings of all components have been discontinued for ? reason. Not a lot of help unless you know the exact name for the part - well, Toy's exact name, that is... You might be able to correlate between the FSM's names and the EPC's parts list, though.
Another resource that has some exploded drawings is http://www.toyotaoemparts.com, which is Butler Toy's site; just enter the appropriate info and start drilling through the list. Or just call it at 1-888-890-6942. Its parts guys are extremely helpful.

The FSM on this site shows a "shift lever retainer" with 6 holes in it...the other shifter comes off the side of the trans....though there is a "transfer case cover".

I think I am talking about the 'shift lever retainer'. Yes, only one shift lever goes through it, six bolts sounds right. "keith' e-mailed me has one to send my way. Thanks for the help eveyone. I'm sure I will have a few more questions as I get this put together.

In case you do not already know - the gasket for this is NLA from Toy. You will have to make one from regular material from a parts store. - no biggie. You might check out some posts on "shift+lever" about what goes into this box (not slighting your abilities, though!).
