What size are the front and rear speakers stock? I'm sorry if someone posted this before.

3.5 inch or 4 inch speakers will fit in the front.
5.25 inch speakers will fit in the rear.

I think those are what the stock sizes are.

Alright then. I want to put that newer Toyota cassette tape deck with the thing for the CD changer, just like on my dad's '01 Corolla. I like how it sounds. 3A-C Power said that pre '87 cars' wiring had to be changed, but I think my has already been changed to I believe DIN thing. That or they completely jacked up my wiring because when we got the car and you would turn on the radio the parking lights and the dash lights would come on. That eventually ended up draining the battery one day and some guy my dad knows, re-wired it so that you didn't have to put the ignition on the 'ACC' position. Now I have to decide what speakers to put. Hey 3A-C Power what did you do to put the '01 Celica Toyota deck?

Has anyone been to bestbuy and seen those 12-inch power acoustic subwoofers with the nice plexiglass sub box, and you could see the magnet and everything *drools* And people at the store turn it up and it sounds niceeee in the store, imagine in your car

Anyone know what i'm talkin bout? My friend got the package, 2 of those subs and a matching amp, all for 300 bux, but doesn't come with the box, cuz the box is 200 dollars

He has a crappy homemade box and it doesn't sound nearly as good as it did in the store

Oh crap, if I can remember...

Stereo frame bolt locations are the same on the sides of all Toyota stereos, it's such a common location that all aftermarket stereos include these bolt holes. The angled brackets that bolt to the side of the radio are different however, although they are similar, the dimensions are different from one car to the next. So, use the Tercel ones to bolt to the new stereo.

The 01 Celica and unfortunately many newer Toyotas have a faceplate that's wider than the rest of the unit. That means you have to cut out the plastic trim piece to make it fit. It's easy to do a bad job of, but hard to make it look decent. I used a drill and a grinding wheel, and it's not great but you never notice unless you look up close. Better yet get a model of stereo with the standard faceplate. These will bolt in with no mods required.

Wiring: Best way to do it is get an adapter from any car audio place that fits an 86 and older Toyota - this plugs into your factory connector (if it's still there) and provides wires to connect to an aftermarket stereo and the knowledge of what those wires are. They don't make adapters that adapt one kind of factory harness to another, only this kind. Next, snip the connector off an 87 and up Toyota from the wreckers. If they don't let you in, keep asking until someone is decent enough to take the 2 minutes it takes to go snip one off with the wire cutters. Go to http://www.installdr.com and get the wiring diagram for the 87+, and match these wires to the ones on your 86- adapter. You will be left with one wire that is labeled 'do not use' on the diagram which is actually for the lighting on the factory stereo. Hook this one up so the lighting works.
