Are Gen I Eclipse/Talon/Laser cars (1990-94) prone to dropping the whole wheel assembly?
In the space of a couple of miles' drive today on an urban STL Interstate I saw two on the side of the road, each with the right front wheel collapsed; one was apparently lodged in its well and the other was a short distance behind the car.

Re: Eclipse Issues ?
The lower ball join design has it in tension (it ususe a torsion spring on the lower arm), when they wear through they separate and the wheel falls "up" into the wheel well. A good reason to regularly check ball joint wear on this type of suspenion.

Re: Eclipse Issues ?
No torsion bar on that turd. Spring on strut. Ball joint or tie rod end popped most likely.
Gotta appreciate consistency!
Most mitsu based cars are time bombs.

Dunno about that, but -splatterdog wrote:Most mitsu based cars are time bombs.
'80s Ram 50/Mity Max trucks are MEGA rust buckets! As Packard used to advertise: "Ask the man who owns one..."
Funny - considering mine has lived exclusively in Salty St. Louis, the body is really not bad, save for some minor surface rust and rocker perforations, while the chassis is literally Swiss cheese (I swear, the bed is holding it all together).

Re: Eclipse Issues ?
Sorry if I offended. But that swipe also includes much of the mopar lineup that has been mitsu based/influenced. If it wasn't for rust there would probably be more D50's left than 150,250,350 Dodge's of the same era. They were simple. That usually helps reliability. Even most 80's Isuzu's could run 200k+ cheaply before disintegrating. Things changed. After 100k you should probably run away now. C-list has many, many a broken Mitsubishi's Over Priced American Replica(mopar). The Eagle name has always flown over junk. The Premier taking top honors. At least Mitsu isn't to blame on that one. Just trying to end on a positive note....
