In another file one owner wrote about a FWD/AWD to RWD/AWD conversion.
Could he (or anyone else) describe us what he concretly did ?
Thanks.

Or...
Is there a cheap-clever way to add a lockable central differential ?

I was talking about it but haven't done it yet. It would have to be done by a custom gear shop or someone who can design their own parts and get them machined. You would have to make a plate that goes between the bellhousing and the transmission, creating space between the 5th gear on the output shaft and the pinion shaft in the front diff, and put a transfer hub there. New shafts or extensions to the old ones would have to be made. The linkage for the transfer would go in to the new plate and a new transfer link would go from there to the shifter. I am a mechanical engineer and have read books on transmission design, so I can handle the design end. The problem is where to get parts made for cheap. I would probably use a combination of my own machining and shops to do the harder stuff.

The center differential would be hard because the way the drivetrain is set up is that the front and rear differentials each attach to one end of the output shaft. To use a center differential there would have to be a whole extra shaft and there isn't any room for one.

FWD to AWD is easy. Basically just a little cutting and welding and bolt it up!!!

you need the AWD tranny of course!!
