1986 Tercel SR5, Western Montana
Hey everyone, I'm leaving for the Air Force soon and need to get rid of the Tercel. 186k miles, 5 speed, newer tires, new clutch, new front struts. Clean inside. Runs alright, I haven't had much time to check everything out. I'd like to sell it whole for $500 but if anyone needs parts let me know as soon as you can and we can work something out. Thanks.

Don't you dare part out a perfectly good running Tercel4wd, especially an SR5. Unless it is wrecked or is full of rust, these are getting rare and all that are left need to be preserved. I know it would sell quick at that price here in western WA and likely Oregon too.

What's your AFSC/base?
It's a scientific fact that in a twin engine aircraft, when one engine fails there is always enough power in the remaining engine to make it all the way to the crash site.

Pedros:
It's got 186k miles, 4WD (of course) EL gear, clutch replaced late last year, new monroe strut cartriges on the front, tires still have plenty of tread. Everything works on it. Pretty much stock, the only thing I've done to it was weld on a quick exhaust after the cat. I think the valve lash needs to be checked, or there is a collapsed lifter, or a rod bearing out. I'm not sure I haven't gotten around to check it out since a have a 85' toyo pickup to drive too. I hope thats what you wanted to know, if there is anything else please feel free to ask. Thanks.

Not sure about that yet. I'm going to basic in july. I want ammo or sheet metal, can't remember the specialty codes quite yet. Are you in the AF then?danzo wrote:What's your AFSC/base?

I was an Acquisition Officer for about 7 years - I had a great time and I'm sure you will too. Stay in as long as you can, the USAF is the best branch IMHO as they treat their peeps better than the rest. If you do basic in San Antonio you are welcome to stop by my haus in Dallas to visit. Let me be the first (as far as I know) to say "thanks for your (future) service!"

My older brother is in too and he says the same thing about the AF. Air Force is by far treats their personnel the best, glad to be a part of it. I'm excited to get going, and thank you for your service. You were the first person to say that other than my recruiter. I think we should thank our veterans much more often, regardless of any beliefs and what not. Nice to get some support from pretty much a total stranger. I apperciate it.

Sounds like a bargain at $500, presuming the noise is not a rod bearing. Valve lash is easy to adjust, there are no lifters, just rocker arms that follow the O/H cam. New bearings are not expensive, but a big job to get to since you can not drop the pan without removing either the engine or cross member and the diff/transaxle. Big job either way.
Also I want to thank you for your future service to our country.
Good luck

Thanks Pedros, I wasn't looking for any thanks when I said veterans should be thanked more by they way
I spilled oil on my timing belt the last time I filled my oil. I wonder if that would cause that deep knocking in the engine. The repair manual says something about oil spills on timing belts, but I didn't think it would cause that deep knock. I fear that it is a rod bearing. The rest of the car is great, its sad that it will probably get parted out because I can't afford the fix right now.
