1984 T4wd SR5 6spd
1984 T4wd SR5 6spd
Selling my recently purchased 1984 Tercel 4wd SR5 6spd.
It has just under 125k miles.
I got it around 3 months ago, bought it from a long time Tercel owner in Helena, MT. He bought this one to replace a wrecked '87 about 10 years ago. Did all his own maintenance. It runs well, starts well, including the super cold weather we just had. Idles perfect warm or cold. Heat works on all settings, defrost works front and rear, all wipers work and all lights. Has a CD player with factory speakers. Runs nice and cool (it was early fall when I got it and still warm out). It does have a slight hesitation or hiccup under medium acceleration or when making slight throttle changes while cruising. This is a minor condition, I posted it up here and got some good ideas but haven't diagnosed it yet. A/C does not work.
In the short time I've had it I did do some mainteance to get it up to snuff. Put on new KYB shocks and struts, strut bearings, ball joints, sway bar bushings and Hankook studded tires. Rides and turns very well now, the Hankooks are great in the snow.
Overall in presentable condition, windshield is cracked, has had some paint work on the driver side fender, there is a smallish dent on the right quarter panel on the wheel lip behind the wheel. Few other minor dings and scratches. SR5 interior is in OK shape, seats aren't torn up, dash isn't cracked, all trim is there. The tops of the front door panels are sun checked and discolored at the front.
Comes with a spare carb, alternator, ps pump and a few other parts. Also includes the factory service manual.
Clear title in hand.
Located in NW Montana, Columbia Falls, 59912.
$1250
PS. Short version of why I'm selling after just buying it and putting a bunch of money into it. I have a company car (for company business only) and a old VW I've had for ever in addition to the Tercel. Wife has a nice newer Subaru. I don't really drive the VW in the winter, but between the company car and the wife's car it hasn't been an issue. Wife is now due with our first child in February, we decided I should get a reliable daily driver type car should I need to do any baby transporting. So, cruising Craigslist I come across this Tercel. Same color and model as one I had years ago and loved. Checked it out, liked it and brought it home. It has since been made clear to me that a 1984 vintage Tercel is not the safest car on the road. That in itself wouldn't have caused me to sell it, but it was the start of the campaign against the Tercel. Fast forward a month or so and we are out getting baby furniture. It won't fit in the wife's Subaru and a truck had to be borrowed. Phase 2 of the campaign against the Tercel, perhaps a bigger SUV type vehicle would be more practical. The poor fuel economy isn't an issue as I wouldn't drive it much. I still wasn't persuaded, but Phase 3 was very smart. An inquery was made about what I would want to get should we get a bigger SUV. She knew perfectly well I've wanted a Land Cruiser for a long time, specifically a 93-97 FZJ80. So, now my wheels are turning, she's pointing out nice ones we see around town, I start looking around online noting prices have dropped on them. Fastforward to last week and a purchase was made. A nice 97 Land Cruiser (actually a LX450, the Lexus version). So the Tercel needs to find a new home.

Good Luck! Good photos as well.
If you have not been married a great while, it seems that you have discovered how "they" can map a campaign much better than us poor Y-chromosome schmucks:
Phase 1 - Emphasizing family values, be they safety or economic issues.
Phase 2 - Bringing damned practicality into the matter.
Phase 3 - Throwing a carrot to the poor deluded male, thereby allowing him to think it was his plan all along.
If "they" go straight to Phase 3, it could be a prelude to arguments and sub rosa resentment on "our" part.
Their cleverness is one reason they live longer than us.

You young pups - Despair! There is no defense.

Essentially the same car I bought 5 yrs ago for the same price and with 190K on it....and more rust.
Give a boy a gun-give a biatch a cell phone-and pretty soon you almost got yourself a police state.

No rust out here.

Re: 1984 T4wd SR5 6spd
Hi Poorhouse (and everyone else) I wanted to withdraw my offer ASAP since I just made a deal with my buddy Terry here in Duluth to take his wagon off his hands. I'm heading over to that FS thread to report as well.
Thanks, and good luck selling that excellent low-mile 4wd. I went from none to three 4wd wagons in 6 months...I'm guess that's common...

Started right up on a 4 degree morning last week.
Pushed through 18" of snow to jump start the plow again.
