'87 tercel sr5 6 spd; mid engine swap

Post by saltyman413 »

I got this tercel last spring, and the old 3AC engine threw a rod 104 miles after i started driving it. now it's sitting in my dad's driveway with the 3AC out, and a 4AFE ready to go in, but we don't know how to put it in and get everything hooked up. basically we're tired of looking at it. everything on it worked fine for the short while i drove it, except for the engine of course. so if you're ambitious and have the time to finish this I'm selling the car for $400 and the new 4AFE engine out of a '96 corolla with the computer box and wiring harness for $300.

When I first read the subject line I had flashbacks of the "SHOgun Festiva" - a Ford Festiva with Taurus SHO drivetrain driving the rear skins that was detailed in an early '90's Road 'n' Track mag. Very fast, with decent handling to boot. Be cool to see some crazy person here do something similar to a T4wd. Maybe I am that crazy person!! I'm thinking turbo Neon iron held in by 2 by 4s and wood glue....

Seriously, why don't you just slap in another 3A? With the bad motor out the battle is half done. You can even upgrade to a 4A on the cheap. Sorry to hear that you only were able to enjoy driving your car for such a short time.
It's a scientific fact that in a twin engine aircraft, when one engine fails there is always enough power in the remaining engine to make it all the way to the crash site.
