Panda Tercel idea.

Post by 4x4wagon »

I was thinking last night, this Tercel I'm going to get is in good enough shape to actually fix up and make it look nice, unlike my old DXL. I don't like the color it is (same ugly gold my DXL was) so I thought about black and white. Why not do a "panda" style paint job.

I stole a pic from skyerunner's "I has snow" thread (hope you don't mind)

Here is what I'm thinking about.

Now I'm not the best photoshoper in the world, but you get the point. What do you guys think? Would this work on a Tercel?

You'd need a red plastic bowl glued upside down on top...and a star on the side? But don't mind me...look pretty good.

I always like zebra strips. It gives it that African safari look, perfect for the boxy little T4wd. An econo safarimobil.

I think it might fool a miscreant IF it had one of those big ol' GMC truck superchargers popping through a huge hole in the hood.

Good one. Actually that "scheme" is alright....I'd just use 2 colors that are non-complementary.

Maybe a dark green and a light grayish green? Dark blue and grayish steel blue. Burgundy and a light tan? Red and a light pink? Well...maybe not....

Lots of work painting it all white but it will look sweet. Are you going to do the tremclad job? Bonus points if you add the lights and police logos!

Tremclad? Not sure what that is lol. My plans are to paint it either all black, or this scheme, 4AGE (already sourced), same MR2 rims I had before, but these I'm getting are in mint (MINT I tell you!) condition, tinted windows, and a bit of a scoop on the hood. I'll think about the po getup, you never know.

I think Tremclad is Canadian for Rust-Oleum.

I was dumb enough to brush paint my truck with rustoleum...hardest crap to get to level out without runs you've ever seen. Tried to remember NOT to use it this way. Have painted vehicles with a split tip brush and had people think it was sprayed...depends on the paint. Rustoleum also scratches easily.

The above method uses mineral spirits in the paint and apparently it hardens enough to buff.

My little tercel is painted with Rust Oleum and a foam roller, it's not the shiniest paint job, but it sure is a LOT better looking than it was before paint. It had surface rust to the point of looking nearly leopard spotted haha. I ended up doing mine white with black on the bottom. I was going to do all white, but the lower parts have holes in them that would show up a lot more on white than black. As far as scratches go, I haven't noticed any, but it isn't shiny enough that they would be apparent like a car with a clear coat.

I really like your color theme idea. Mine is the same way, except the top is still white. but everything below the trim line is blacked out. I think a little tint on the windows would really make this setup look nice.

Since we all love Tercels, here is the before pic, kinda hard to spot the faded paint. and rust

Just repainted my wagon this summer with a foam roller and satin latex house paint....works much better than a brush. Easy to retouch those rust spots.

I like this thread. Let's keep photoshopping silly things onto my car! I like the huge blower through the hood idea. Who's on it?
