Has anyone replaced a Blower Fan?

I am about to replace the Blower Fan on my 85 4wd Tercel. Any advice? Is it pretty straight forward? I would be happy to hear any advice on this endeavor. Thanks.

i would take the glove box out (2 screws) to gain better access, then its just a matter of finding the right size torks bit..... or you can take the whole unit out (6 or so 10mm bolts) and use pliers to pull the tork's screws out... if you pull the whole unit you have to take the tube between the heater core and the blower motor out also....

either way its pretty easy

It is easy access with the glove box removed. Check the various switches, fuses and relays in the system too, it is not alway the motor that goes bad.

I did the blower fan on my '88 years ago. As I recall the motor I got from NAPA didn't fit, but the brushes did so I ended up taking the brushes from the new motor and stuffing them into the old one. Been working great so far... and it is an easy job to do with just a screwdriver IIRC.

I got mine out pretty easily - I had parked my '86 in the bushes for a few years and the mice made a nest in it so I ended up cleaning about a pound of junk out of the blower housing. Glove box needs to come out, then mostly 10mm bolts to separate the whole assembly from the firewall and heater duct system. IIRC, all the bolts are different lengths and sizes so note where you pulled them out.

Check the insulation on the blower fan doors, as well as on the various ducts. I have replaced my blower motor twice, and the second time this insulation was deteriorated (maybe from ozone?). Anyway, some thin weatherstripping from the hardware store did the trick. This is also a good time to lube the cables, etc., so that your air handling controls will work smoothly. Make sure to clean the blower cage, as well, as it can get pretty nasty.

I did one. One of the three screws is a ***** to get to but other than that its pretty straight forward. I got a replacement motor from Autozone, it was the cheapest but it didn't have a connector and I got the wires wrong the first time. Motor works a lot better when its wired right.
