Also looking at a terc 4wd with 6 speed.

Re: Sold my tercel
Sorry to hear that. See if you can find a Camry All-Trac. It is an AWD camry. Kind of rare, but I do see them on Craig's list every once and a while. Wish I could find a Camry wagon with AWD, but these are even more rare.

Got the camry and sold it less than 24hrs later for $500 profit.

There's a colt vista 4wd wagon a couple blocks over from me here in STC. It looks like a poor tercel 4wd knock off to me. Who built them? I'd rather have a tercel anyday, but I'm Toyota-centric to begin with.offroadohio wrote:Got the camry and sold it less than 24hrs later for $500 profit.

Re: Sold my tercel
Mitsubishi was the manufacturer. A customer of mine had one waay back when. It was actually pretty practical and (as I recall) had even more room inside than our cars. It was NOT as handsome as ours, though. Check out the Road Tests I posted on the Home Page; I'm pretty sure Car and Driver included one in a comparison of various 4WD wagons in '85-6. As I recall, the mech reliability was not up to Toyota, though. They rusted even faster than T4WDs and early Hondas...

T4WD augury?

Re: Sold my tercel
You got that right arch! I put Mitsu's right at the bottom of the jap pile along with Isuzu.
I hated seeing those pull in. Free estimates really suck on a car that isn't worth it to begin with. That was before they were 10 years of age.
While I can certainly appreciate the concept, even if it was halfway to being a minivan, the reliability keeps it in total turd status. Most around here are long gone. They make T4's look plentiful.
If it's a $100 or less driving/almost driving flogger, that's a different story. Buy it to put it out of everyones misery. haha

Re: Sold my tercel
splatterdog - Interesting comment about Mitsu and Isuzu. I have owned since new an '88 Dodge Ram 50/Mitsu Mity Max 2WD p'up. An employee and her Dad each owned Isuzu p'ups. All (including mine) were unbelievable rustbuckets.
A couple of years ago, right after I'd put in a new Jasper* engine, I got to looking at the chassis of my truck - OMG - I swear that the bed was (and still is) holding it together! That boxed-in chassis looked like Swiss cheese. Now granted, MO uses a lot of salt, but this was ridiculous. One of these days I am convinced it will just break in half.
I even moved the spare tire into the bed, as I was afraid it would break loose from the mounting, drop off, and cause an accident. Now all I need are a few Bud cans and a dawg in the back...
I've not done anything to it since, save what was necessary to pass various inspections - not even washed it.
Those Mitsu V6 engines Chrysler used were pretty trouble-prone as well, I believe.
It is interesting - Isuzu and Mitsu Fuso make some excellent BIG trucks - right? At least I see quite a few around.

* Interesting Jasper footnote - they told me that in remanning, they eliminate the Twin Silent Shafts feature of these 2.6 Mitsu engines because they were more trouble than they were worth; and in truth, that engine never seemed noticeably quieter/smoother than other comparable engines, particularly considering the complexity.
