Flasher Relay Problem

Post by tinomobile »

New Tercel owner and member. Love my little "tank" so far. The flasher relay will chatter very quickly, at times, without the switch being on. When this happens, the lights on the dash or outside do not flash, or light up. If I turn the switch on, the relay immediately starts to operate normally, and the lights on the dash and outside work correctly. I have replaced the flasher relay, but the problem still exists. Any ideas? Thanks, Barry

Sounds like a bad ground. study the wire diagram in the FSM and see if you can locate all the grounds in the system and check for corrosion, contact etc. Also check the system fuses, pull them out and push them back in, sometimes they make poor contact. Also, could be a bad switch? or a frayed wire that makes partial contact when it should not?

Good luck.

Thanks Petro for the reply. I'll be travelling all week, so perhaps I can check your suggestions next weekend. Barry

Petros

I cleaned all of the ground points about a month ago, and so far so good. That appears to have been the problem.
Thanks again. Sorry for spelling your name wrong last time!
