Ok, it's a little over a year later and I have finally confirmed that the bushing is in fact a goner. So the question is, where do I get a replacement one?!?
I know that I can fab something up if necessary, but I'd rather not put that kind of time into it.

I can't find an OEM part online anywhere, but it looks like I can get a decent solution out of using a spherical bearing like they sell here -

It might make it more difficult to connect/disconnect, but I'd bet it would last allot longer.

Re: Windshield Wipers
Did you check with Butler Toy in Indy? It lists a "Wiper transmission" for an ungodly price, but maybe "parts only" are available. Give them a call @ 800-692-6396 or www.toyotaoemparts.com.

When I had the "cover" off on mine...I greased all the bushings under there. Stopped the wiper noise. I'd just get a set from a yard. You don't say what particular bushing is bad...

It is the main one that links the motor torque arm to the shaft.

Re: Windshield Wipers
I still haven't fixed this because the water pump failed shortly after the last posting, but now I've started looking at options again. Has anybody found any that are a direct replacement?
Edit: It looks like the local wrecker has a fresh 86 on the lot to pick over. Unfortunately they just closed with no Sunday hours!
Oh well, it's not like I don't drive by their lot at least 2 times per day anyway.

Re: Windshield Wipers
That main link is gone on my '83 as well- it's a bugger to get to without removing the cowl panel, but it's for sure the problem with mine- I had to fix it in a snow storm- Be sure to just pop it off, it's a snap fit over the ball.

Re: Windshield Wipers
I finally made it to the wrecking yard (did I mention that I pass it twice a day going to work and back?) and got what I needed. Word of advice for anybody facing the same issue: The bushing is difficult to get out of the arm. I quit trying for fear of breaking it. It is much easier to just remove the cowl and yank the whole transmission arm off and get two bushings for the price of one. Once the vent sub covers are off, it is very easy to pop the other end of the arm off from the passenger wiper. Push the whole arm assembly over toward the passenger side, then it slides out easily through the vent holes.
