gearshift sticks in 2nd.

Hey all,

My tranny has been acting up for a little while but lately it's been much worse. 1st to 2nd is fine, but 2nd to 3rd gets stuck. I just replaced the gear oil, no help. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Mine did that before it finally trashed itself, the shift forks are wearing out, possibly syncros too. I do not think they is anyway to save it at this point. It is time to find a new tranny.

They have several to choose from in the Arlington Pull-A-Part for only $50, bring your own tools and come get it. It is about 45 min north of Seattle (exit #206 from I-5). They are open everyday until 7 pm, better leave at least an hour or more to get it. I could meet you there if I am available and give you a hand (I need to get a few more items myself).

You can't beat the price on those parts... I'm just wondering why it's only 2nd gear and the thing shifts beautifully other than that. It's quite annoying too when you get stuck in gear for a bit in a parking lot. Anyhow, I'm game for a pull a part meetup. I'll be happy to give you a hand as well.

Did your car have trouble shifting into all gears, or just out of second?

It started with second, and first got so bad that I stopped using it. When starting on hills I would slam it into 4wd, use EL to get moving and than shift into 2nd with a double clutch assist. Than 3rd and 4th worked fine.

I think the speed differential and the number of times you shift into 2nd are highest, so it just wears out first.

You're probably right, I'm almost thinking about just putting the motor in a donor... But I need to do this before it breaks.
