Canadian Doughnuts

Hey there,

Found an interesting thread about improving suspension performance: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=70&start=0

I believe that the spring clamps are available for the rear, but I cannot find these doughnuts anywhere in Canada, (mind you Im not yet skilled in the art of finding auto parts)

any suggestions on how to quickly get ahold of them would be greatly appreciated.

They work. I've got them on top of both my cars rear springs. They have to be cut slightly to match the diameter of the spring/pocket. Once installed they aren't going anywhere.

I don't like the metal adjustable ones. They always move around/fall out.

When you say that they are 'on top' do you mean that the spring had to be removed to allow them to be placed in there? I was under the impression that they could 'snake' their way into position in there...

You can either install them on top of the spring, or snake them between the coils as a stabilizer. I lucked out and picked up a new pair last week for $5 at a swap meet, so I now have 2 pair in the rear of my 2WD,

I think going on top gives a little more boost. It also puts the least amount of stress on the coil springs while allowing the whole coil to "work".

Sway bar needed to be unbolted from axle for extra drop and it's still a stretch getting the springs back in. Brake cable brakets on floor had to come off too for that little extra. Watch out, those tiny bolts like to break. Have some self drilling/tapping screws handy.

Found them (even though the clerk couldnt !) installed two in the front, and two of the "H" shaped metal ones in the rear...will perhaps augment the rear springs with more of the rubber ones when I get the chance to pick up more, Replaced front rotors/pads, oil change and spring boosters done...need a new tie rod and rear brake shoes (possibly drums) as well as a brake fluid swap, and shell be ready to hit the road!

Keep an eye on those metal ones. they like to walk around....

Say, in another post you mentioned passing thru Minnesota on a big road trip. If you are passing by the twin cities and your car has air conditioning but needs a charge, I can set you up cheap. No R134 retrofitting here for your classic either. R12 baby!
