LED taillight bulb conversion
Tried "search" with no luck... I'd like to upgrade my '87 2WD wagon's taillights & turnsignals to a LED-bulb design to improve street safety & visibility, but I wonder... anyone accomplished this with their Tercel? Any recommendations as to a good source or design of bulbs? There seem to be a wide variety of LED groupings/designs, and even the number of LED's on a module. And would the flasher relay have to be updated, also?

I would say just shove LED's in the spots for the bulbs, LED's are incredibly cheap (5 cents a bulb, sometimes less). Shouldn't be too hard, you'd have to put a voltage regulator I'd imagine.
Re: LED taillight bulb conversion
You can't use LEDs for turn signals, they don't draw enough power to run the blinker. LEDs sold at AutoZone are a bit dangerous as the brightness between the taillight and brake light is almost the same, people can't tell when you put on your brakes at night. You could use LEDs in the center brake light where you would have the advantage of the quicker light up. Filament bulbs actually take about a quarter of a second to come on, thats about 22 feet at 60 mph. LEDs come on instantly.
There is an LED made for vehicles that have a good difference between tail and brake lights and they have a turn signal light that works with conventional blinkers or a special blinker that works with LEDs, but their stuff is very expensive, about $30/bulb. I've heard that they have or are developing an LED low beam headlight bulb.

You might try this site, they have various modules that just fit right into the existing sockets; I haven't searched for the Tercel bulb types yet though. I've ordered LEDs from them before and seem to be a good company.
