dome light door activated

Post by terkill »

Since the paint job, my dome light doesn't turn on when my doors open. It could be a coincidence since the buttons are all working fine.

The light still turns on when you switch to ON but the light just doesnt turn on when u switch to door and open any door.

My question: Did toyota run inline fuses somewhere? my driver side button wires seem to be alittle chewed up and maybe it blew one? The dome fuse is fine.

Anyone know of a wiring diagram for this? or suggestions?

Check on the very last page of the '85 FSM here - good exposition of the system...still looks like spaghetti to me, though.
Also look on page BE-8.

Check your door jamb switches. They provide a path to ground thru the switch threads when the door is opened. It's a fairly crude switch that could get fouled by painting.

Not if it can still be manually turned on. This is a ground problem.

I concur. If there was no power than a fuse or broken/shorted wire could be the problem. If the switch works in "on" it's gotta be a ground issue.

HAHA. I should, that tool is quite handy.

Being busy with finals and other issues, I haven't been able to do anything.

I'm probably going to sand down holes that the buttons drill into and check the wiring. There has to be an inline fuse somewhere..

Instead of starting a new thread since I feel as if im cluttering the forums a bit, and its kind of relative...

Has anyone ever bough an aftermarket trailer hitch for the t4wd?
I am going to be moving cross country this august and I would like to save money and tow my own small trailer.

Anyone have any good places to buy one or could anyone give me any tips on which...

This is what I've found so far:

I would look locally. If they are still in production/stock, you can easily return it, if it doesn't work. Sometimes they don't fit very well.

If nothing will "bolt on" nice, try a welding shop that specializes in trailers.

Or rent a uhaul truck and tow dolly the terc behind it. You might have to pull the rear drive shaft first. Not sure if the trans's lube pump turns with the motor or output shaft.

I don't beleive that guy is gonna work. There isn't much to bolt to down there. Drilling holes in unibody is never good. Best to use the factory bumper mounts. Somebody has to have a cleanly made one around.

I say make your own. I recommend finding a 2" receiver instead of 1 1/4"
I made my bumper rear bumper for about $150 and it could be done much cheaper.

If you can find a pre 87 toyota pickup bumper with a receiver hitch, you can have the mounts re-welded to fit the T4WD(junk yard option). They are a bit wider.

Also, never exceed 500lbs tongue weight and I wouldn't recommend towing more than 2000lbs gross with trailer.
Both were stupid personal learning lessons.

The link doesn't work but I believe thats just the one I linked anyways.

Thank you for the tip, Ill stop by the junk yard this weekend and look around, when I bought my tercel I planned to take of the plastic cover and rebuild by back bumper anyways just because of all the rust that has started on the underneath. I bump up against it sometimes and some pieces fall out.
