Fairly new owner of a 1983 tercel 4wd

Post by caperren »

I am a 15 year old owner of an 83' Tercel. My Dad picked this up for me as my first car for $700 about 4 months ago. My Dad has an 86' Tercel and loves it and figured that it would be a great first car for me. At first I was kind of skeptical of the older nature of the car but quickly realized what an awesome car it is. The previous owner obviously had no idea on how to take care of a car so when I got it it had no oil, no antifreeze or water, and a broken fuel pump squirting fuel directly onto the exhaust manifold. Since then I have filled the car with fluids and replaced the fuel pump and now it runs great. The interior is in good condition. I have added a nice stereo with two home theater sub woofers in the back. At this point I am working on incorporating a hidden soft modded xbox into the car with either a removable or hideaway screen for audio and video. I love listening to music and this car is a place where I can listen to it without bothering anybody. For now, I have a mount for my nokia n810 as my media source. The seats were slightly ripped and through an odd set of events I managed to have an extra memory foam mattress to use as padding for my seats. I am a gadget geek if you haven't noticed and the single cigarette port for power was not enough. Rather than getting a splitter and further taxing the 26 year old electrical system I decided to add a second electrical system. I have not had a chance to see whether the 62 horsepower (at least i think it's 62 hp) motor can handle 70 mph freeway speeds as I live on an island. Oh yeah, I also added remote power door locks for all four doors. Unlocked cars at my school have been broken into recently so I wanted a quick easy way to lock and unlock my car. It was a $40 system that works great. For being so old there is not a lot wrong with this car and i am very pleased with it as my first car.

I used a memory foam pillow for the seat cushion in my truck...didn't work so well as a pillow, but it's great under a seat cover.

Looks like a relatively rust free car...but it's time to learn some body work techniques? Try it...it's fun....

very nice, that's a first for me on seeing auto-locks on a t4wd. Do you know where those rims are from, they look fitting

....may I suggest though, seeing as you have people breaking into cars as an issue, as do i...
...using car speakers/subwoofers instead of a home stereo system.......

-They generally are more hidden and they don't scream "Please easily smash this back window and take!"
-They also (home entertainment systems) put more stress on the poor little tercel alternator :P
