Volvo P-1800 Mileage

Post by ARCHINSTL »

Followup -
As of March 18, 2009, Irv Gordon has 2,694,631 miles on his 1966 Volvo P-1800, which he bought new.
He drove almost 85 THOUSAND miles since January 26, 2008 - that's an AVERAGE of 203 miles per each and every single day - or if in 5-day work weeks, with no allowance for vacation - that's about 1438 miles per week. And for a couple of years, he drove over 100K per year!
To quote Mr. Gordon when questioned about the eventual fate of the car:
"I also think it should go in a nice, cozy museum where people will get to enjoy seeing the car that beat the odds - all with the same engine, same radio, same axles, same transmission and of course the same driver."

I always wanted one of these cars, but I believe their rustability exceeded the Tercel's...but less than a Fiat.

After Googling I gather he drives around 88,000 miles per year now and gets maybe 30 mpg highway. So when gas was $4 / gallon he was shelling out around $12,000 / year for gas?

Shows you what well designed and built parts are capable of?
