I live in St. Charles, Missouri (near St. Louis). I own a 1986 Toyota Tercel SR5 that I bought new in December of 1985. The exterior is Gold and the interior is Brown & Tan. Below are links to some photos.
We drove our T4WD until 2004 when something broke in the transaxle (I think). It has been in our garage since then. I hope communicate with members who can help me diagnose the problem and point me in the right direction to get it running again.
Welcome to the forum, Can you describe what happened? Noises, won't move, etc. It looks like you took good care of it, at 100k the tranny/transfer case shouldn't give up unless you drove on dry pavement in 4WD for quite some distance.
BTW, nice bugeye, Sprite60. Check out the '58 I found in Aug last year. http://s734.photobucket.com/albums/ww349/bugeye8016/

Here's the background on the problem.... In 2002, my son turned 16 and I taught him to drive with the T4WD. After 2 years of him driving the car, it started making a clunking noise, like a tooth broke on a gear. Before I could look into it, it got much louder and the front wheels would hop when it was driven. We stopped driving it once the hop began, but when I moved it into the garage, it made a loud sound and green lube leaked onto the floor. I suspect that was the case of the transaxle cracking. I had no time to mess with it then, so just cleaned up the lube and let it sit. I will have some time this spring, so I will put it up on jack stands soon and inspect the underside. All suggestions are welcome. Thank You!
If the CV joints fail it could act like this too, but leaking trans lube is not likely (but possible). So if you are lucky you just need to replace the axles. Otherwise it might be time to start looking for a new trans, best deal is from a self service wrecking yard like a Pull-a-part, or U-Pull-it, etc. It could also be the differential, it is possible to just replace the diff and housing, it unbolts from the main trans unit, and finding a good diff and housing would be easier than finding a whole trans.
If you have to pull the trans you should consider replacing the clutch and rear main seal too.
Good luck, either way it is a big job. Let us know what you find.
I agree with Petros, check the CV axles, both where they exit the diff and by the outer hub. It sounds ( ) like you lost the inner of the CV joints. Let us know what you find. If you don't have the FSM, use the one online (at the Board index).

If the CV joint(s) did blow up, then you have an ideal candidate for a rwd Tercel! You can get the car mobile by removing just the axle (retain CV "cups") and driving it with the shifter in 4wd. Check the archives. I may do this just for laughs and the fact that I have no first gear in fwd.
Your car's in nice shape BTW. I own the blue version of it, same year and mileage even. Also I used to own an LBC (Spitfire), small world. Welcome and keep us posted.
It's a scientific fact that in a twin engine aircraft, when one engine fails there is always enough power in the remaining engine to make it all the way to the crash site.
