Backyard snow racing track? yes.

Post by terkill »

My dad and I decided the snow was perfect to make a track in the back yard and race the 4WDs

I have a video from my phone, its alright but im not sure how to convert it, wondering if I should post it too?

Good try though! Clearance is the only problem that I have ever had with the snow too.

That's a pretty good looking Tercel. Not much rust? Do they salt the roads in Connecticut?

For those tall deposits of fresh snow, GO SLOW. If you go fast, it'll pack in way too fast. If you take it slow, under 5mph, you'll be able to plow through it for a LONG time.

Yeh..dont go fast.

that will allow you to get really stuck well. So far off the plowed road that no one will find you until the spring thaw....

yeh dont do it alone, and bring shovels.

I've done it a few times, a couple times just me and a friend in only my car. we eventually get stuck but we can just shovel our way out.

It's fun.

The car was actually from New York, so the shocks and struts are shot more than the body, haha. And yea, they use sea-salt on the roads now since a car friendly snow traction aid was too expensive I guess. (I take the car every other week to a car wash to wash as much as a can off..)
I was keeping it in EL and at high revs, when I hit the hill the car slid down it on the ice and piled snow up! Haha, I couldn't open my door good..

There isn't any good open land to venture out onto and go plow through fields of snow for a while....I've been to one or two open park areas but you only get 30-45 minutes before a cop or two is called in to shoo you out... its kinda sad..

oh and this is the video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsOLcw0aEyM

I don't call it fun when you have the frame sitting on packed snow and no way to get to the snow to allow the tires some traction. I always carry a shovel and some tow straps and so forth.

Learn hit and run off roading? Try to find old abandoned RR tracks? That's the problem with the over settled east.

The "run" part of your sentence is misleading, you can only get so far before the state cops (who have dodge chargers on the road, and lifted cherokees offroad) eventually get to you, but sometimes I get lucky. Haha, but yea one of the few places I go that isn't protected or alerted quickly is train tracks by my old high-school.

Well...you won't run to far in a Terc if they really want to find you. The idea is to do no damage...find places with little settlement...have a little fun...leave nothing but tracks...not ruts. Not a good idea to decide to rally in someones yard or field though...I'm talking old tracks and lanes, etc. If you get stuck...your goose is cooked. :?
