If it is not tucked in behind the battery it is probably internally regulated - there are both types.

At least you have a bike to ride! (and presumably the good weather to ride it)

Just a thought - If you are mechanically inclined it may just be the brushes. I replaced brushes twice about 90,000 miles apart in an internally regulated Terc alternator. The trickiest part is that the brush leads need to be soldered in place.

no snow or ice but it was ever so cold in Va. took 30 minutes to install everything is good. Advance Auto said it was a diode gone bad in the old one. plus it was making a squeeking noise which i thought was a belt or something. I have nice bright lights now. You know, all day today I was thinking of getting something else cause im tired of working on my terc and my 85 chevy truck 4x4, but after spending a lousy 30 minutes to install the alt. I said to myself hell no, not getting rid of this or my truck. Both vehicles are way to friggin easy to work on. I helped my neighbor do an alt. job on his daughter in laws 2001 cougar. 1st time took us 14 hours, couple months later had to do it again and it took us about 8.
