My '86 4wd has what I think is a fast idle cable that goes from the carb to a black plastic box near the brake master cylinder. What is this box? I couldn't find it in the FSM. I thought maybe it was a cruise control controller but it doesn't appear my car has ever had cruise.
The reason I'm asking is because my car idles at 3000 all the time if I connect that cable to my carb, which is why it is currently not connected. Any ideas on how I would correct the idle?

Dumb engine question
It's a scientific fact that in a twin engine aircraft, when one engine fails there is always enough power in the remaining engine to make it all the way to the crash site.

Re: Dumb engine question
The only black box or cannister by the brake master cylinder i've ever heard of is a factory installed Cruise control...weird though.
