Since the only post-Aisan ECU input is now from the O2 and water temp sensors (which latter apparently now only affects the phenolic heater *) - is the O2 sensor now redundant?
* Note that the temp sensor via the ECU may also still operate the vapor canister's VSV, which opens the purge line and is still hooked up as well, although I dunno if it is actually permitting a (atmosphere-vented) purge.
Every other emission switch is unplugged - and removed.
Any thoughts on the O2 sensor? It would now seem superfluous...

I vote superfluous. And restrictive in an already small space

Re: Webers & O2 Sensors
I think the purge is controlled by engine rpm and temp. ECU should still see temp and rpm signals? O2 doesn't affect the purge?

Re: Webers & O2 Sensors
You could always use the o2 for an air/fuel gauge.
Purge also uses a vacuum switch(that you most likely removed), that lets the ecm know there is manifold vacuum present. I believe the FSM covers theory and operation. I still haven't messed with mine....

That vac switch is controlled by the ECU using rpm and temp signals? Should still work if the basic wires are hooked up? ECU would default to a basic fuel map?

Re: Webers & O2 Sensors
I've also wondered about this. I noticed mine was chopped in half and wondered a: if there was an ecu that ran the car and b: what does it really control? I think im going to start planning a complete emissions removal soon and see how it goes. The only thing i was worried about is if there was any ignition adjustment via the o2 input. If not, then let the games begin!
Re: Webers & O2 Sensors
I tried removing all the vac tubing with the OEM carb...wouldn't run right.

Re: Webers & O2 Sensors
It will run better with everything hooked up, provided everything works. Get a MityVac and test all the diaphragms. Even the secondary if you can find a way. I think I saw NAPA listing them now, so if its damaged, it could be done. Test dist advance, HAVC, all that. If it is all in tact, keep it hooke dup properly.
I think the only reason my bypassing worked was because my dizzy advance was blown without me knowing.
