My Hawk Wagon!

Post by terceldude »

Here are a couple pics of my current 87 Tercel. I have found a printer of my sisters with a scanner on it to convert these analog photos to digital format. I bought this in Cranston, RI a year ago in June/July from an older man in his 70's with white hair and glasses and he showed me the very ins and outs of this car. He was very nice and he lowered the price considerably from 1850, I think, to 1800 and his wife who was very ill was also very nice and had him offer me, my mom and my "stepdad figure" a drink while we asked him questions about it, etc. I drove it to my Toyota class and bombed in it, lol, just like Typrus would!!! I enjoy this car and a lot of the mentor mechanics of mine really enjoyed it and were wondering if I'd start a collection of Tercs. I will think about that. This one needs a new fuel pump because the one in it now is leaking. This one also has new brakes, struts, shocks, tires, timing belt, drive belt, etc. in it. I may have to replace the water pump on it as well since the green from the gasket is sticking out. Comment on this car and tell me what you think.... I also have some pics of my 83, that I no longer have, , that I never showed you guys that I'll be uploading momentarily.

The first pic is from a book I got from Japan entitled: My Car Enjoy Manual: Toyota Corolla II/ Tercel/ Corsa Owner Everything and ISBN# is 4-381-00641-0. I strongly recommend you each buy this book once it becomes avail. again. It lists a catalog of all kinds of body kits and dress-up kits, parts and accessories for the Corolla 2, Tercel and Corsa...... You may have to order it on Amazon.co.jp by typing in the ISBN number when one is avail. and configuring an account there. I have an account there right now and I could show you how to do it. There are English help pages on it too, to take advantage of... The other thing you could do is post a want it now on eBay......

Anyways, enjoy my pics.... :D :)

Nice looking unit Kevin, sounds like you waited for the right one! did you go auto or manual? My gasket sticks out a couple of mm from the water pump (so that I know that it is there) :D ..

There was a twin carby Tercel set up on ebay australia recently but I passed on it apparently they are pretty fiddly things.. I get my Weber 32/36 on next week!

You may want to cut those roof bars down a little though - lest you take someones eye out :D

I went auto because I'm still getting taught by my mom on how to drive a manual. I love this car and I definitely bought it, if I didn't say, with originally 99K, not kilos, on the clock. My dad used to own a 1985 Tercel 2WD Wagon and 1986 one. He traded the 1985 one in to Lexington Toyota in 1986 because of the lemon smell in it or some smell in it that reacted very badly with his Wilson's disease before he died in January of 1992. I still miss him so much,. I can definitely say that he owned some nice cars. My mom also had a 1966 Dodge Coronet in creme color, bought it used from a Toyota dealer and they fixed it up, the radiator blew on it, it overheated and she was able to drive it to a gasoline station, I think in Syracuse, NY in the early 70s, and they replaced the radiator in 15 minutes and she was able to get to her class in Syracuse on time. I told her if I had been around back then, I could have fixed it before the station. She felt pleased about that and me being the "home mechanic"..

So, does Typrus or anybody else have anything to say on my ride?

Thanks to all for your input..... :)

If you had bought a stick shift, you would have learned to drive it pretty fast. Once most people learn, they do not want to go back. With this underpowered engine the manual trans helps a lot. The manual trans is also more reliable and easier to fix should you need to. Perhaps once you learn to drive stick, and you get tired of the autotrans, you can keep your eyes open for a nice Tercel4wd with manual trans for later.

Would you believe I once had a 66 Dodge Coronet SW. Bought it in 76 when I returned from Japan and had it until 92. I put a lot of miles on it, it was a great car.

Yes there are like turbo, dress-up, steering wheels, audio, etc., That will be uploaded at some other point though. I have a bunch of the stuff scanned from it already (the Weber 40mm twin sidedraft Corolla II as being one of those scans). I like the name too. Only Japan has such great things......

The eye you save may be your own...
And - these loadbars are a no-brainer lawsuit claiming res ipsa loquitur just waiting to be filed. And your post here would be evidence of wilful and intended negligence.
I don't think I'd like to be the owner when the cop who stops you for whatever bangs his head - these may be illegal as well; most states have laws governing the amount of overhang of racks (kinda like how far something can stick out of a window/p'up bed).
I would doubt "mad swerd" is an accepted legal defense ploy, even in Wellesley...
Do you own the car or your Mom? If she does, she may want to transfer it to you for liability reasons - I ain't woofin' on this.

Im pretty sure it is illegal if the roof rack overhand exceeds the maxiumum width of the vehicle (side mirrors).
At least that is what was stated in writing when my dad purchased some for his 2002 Durango.
Im also pretty sure you cannot leave the country if they file you for decapitating pedestrians along a street, haha.

I could leave.... The bars aren't longer than the mirrors, I think... You have every right to be able to have bars like that as long as you put scheisse on them....

Thanks for the suggestion Mattel, but I like them the way they are. This is how they came when my dad bought them in the early 90s, I think... I'm not sure how long they are... :)
