My tercel:: 1985 Tercel

Noob.

Post by miyagi-san »

I just bought a 1985 Tercel 4WD about two months ago. Imagine my surprise to find a whole group of people dedicated to this little car!

So far I love it. A few mechanical problems here and there that I'm working on (I'm a complete novice with anything mechanical, so this is a learning experience... and I'm going to be posting a total beginner question in a few minutes :) ), but a very solid car and it rules in the nasty lake-effect snow we've had the past week.

I have named him Miyagi-San, after the wise old man in The Karate Kid. He replaces Pedro, an old VW bug whose time had come.

I love this little car so far.

Once I get my pulley problem fixed, I'm planning to baby it with some of the basic welcoming stuff that I had to put off for a while (oil change, tune up, filter change, transmission flush, etc). Being a grad student means no money to pay someone else to fix it, no time to do it myself. But the semester ends in a couple weeks, and I plan to get my hands dirty.

Also, Miyagi-San is begging for a new stereo. My god the one it came with is awful. Tape deck is broke, the only station it gets is NPR, and most of the time only the front left speaker works.

Haha, don't worry. My radio only works when the car is heated up. Who knows why?

Sweet ride!

I was thinking of painting my car that color in Spring. Gotta love that luggage cover. Can you take a foto of it w/it down?

If for some reason you might want to try swapping an auto trans for a manual?
