UK Test of T4wd Estate 1985 update from Autocar

Post by Mattel »

Thanks to dockertrigger off Flickr
I have linked to this great review from the English Autocar magazine.
It has a thorough rundown of not only the transmission changes but also engine changes on the post '85 models (this may however be an UK only thing though) see page 3 for more details.. Enjoy

Hmmm -
Looks like the UK got more power than here in N. America - than in OZ, too? Perfidious Albion!
Also interesting to see the info on the other cars which did not make it to the USA - an Alfa 4WD!
Thanks, Matt - have to digest it at length later.

Interesting are the mpgs claimed for lower speeds...like 53 mpg at 40 mph.

I didn't know we had Rev Limiters... Never had my beast much above 5,000 though. Usually it never even hits 4k, I drive the Terc pretty calmly.

I was mostly interested in the different engine specs between the 84 and 85 model years. I thought it was only gearbox ratio changes, some of these facts and figures would only apply to UK models also, I'm not sure they had Catalytic convertors mandatory (same in Australia).

Tom, those Alfa wagons got to Aus and until recently you could pick them up at ridiculously cheap prices. They would have handled sweet as well if anything like the other alfa I have driven - but unfortunately had the dismal reliability, extra complexity, overpriced spares and crisp, raspy exhaust note that only European cars can deliver. we also got the other cars except the dacia.

Mattel, do you think you could re-scan pages 42, 43 and 48 to at least match the scan quality of page 44, since I am having trouble reading everything furthest to the right?? :( Thank you. :)

I'm ganna put all of these scans up, just be patient.

And no, WE DO NOT have rev limiters. I've had my tercel at 7800 rpms before, if there's a limiter, mines broken

I didn't scan these, someone posted them on Flickr. There were some hi-rez versions available but they don't seem to be available presently.

The Lada was good off road. They still were trying to sell them here 10 years ago! now the flood of korean cars has eaten into that end of the market.
