So you take ONE ford ranger experience and chalk that up as the entire company? How do you know he wasn't doing something to speed up the downfall of those shackles?

Every model will have lemons, it's just fact. Ford has some fine products, some shitty ones. Every manufacturer has it.

I can't help but to think about when I was young and dumb.....

Neu is absolutley right. ALL cars can suck. Some more than others. Nobody here has never cussed out their terc?

You really picked the crap of the crop for your good examples minus the nova/prism(corolla).

Gm has lots of suckmobiles and are not the only ones in bed with the japs. All three have been for decades. Their teamwork usually produced throwaway cars. Also, current Gm pattern failures provide my largest proportion of income. And I work on/hate them all. Foreign or domestic. Sometimes the owner is the worst thing about a car too. The last Yugo I worked on long ago, there would be no way to convince the owner his car sucked. He was telling me about how he was going to put a peugot "racing" engine in it. OK, now just go away while I hang your exhaust please.

Brand loyalty is drying up. The car dealers are to blame too. High shop rates for unqualified techs doesnt help image at all. Pay peanuts and you get monkeys! But slashing labor helps the suits afford extra homes and such. Too bad their world is crashing down and dealers are closing everywhere. And I wouldn't be surprised about a toy tech badmouthing any other line. Although they are in a better position to do so. But how do they know if a ford or chev is better? I doubt they see too many in their shop. I noticed many dealer guys don't do well when working on other brands and also let brand loyalty cloud their judgement. "Those are junk" is not diagnostics.

BTW you forgot to bash Mopar.

So here's what I hate about some brands, this is stuff i've come first hand into. And I still prefer either ford or toyota/honda to work on.

Toyota/honda - sometimes it's a pain to get your hands in places, as I have somewhat large hands...
Ford - They have some problems with MAF sensors..which isn't too shabby. They have had engine problems.
Chevy - Well..lets see. Crappy suspension, they're advertising, just basically how they talk about themselves.
GM - Oh god..gm. The dizzy's on the back of the block, WTF. Takes way too long to work on it back there. Transmissions are KNOWN to fail like crazy, like clockwork at certain mileages. Also, headgasket problems, etc.
Honda- had some tranny problems in their accords for a few years.
BMW - high cost to maintain.
volvo - only real thing i can't find much wrong with. Their newer cars tend to suck, but earlier models are solid.

Every brand has it's little things that people will hate. But guess what? They all drive down the fucking road.

You know, I just don't believe you or this information...... I took a Ford Focus 4-door sedan out for a test drive for my supervisor mechanic, when Toyotas, weren't coming to him at that particular moment to be diagnosed, but I took it out for a drive in Nashua, NH and I hated every minute of it. The engine sounded like a tractor and I was saying in my head, "Get me the f*** out of this POS car!" Besides I think in the news, Ford lost a lot of their profits, so it is no surprise that they would choose the cheapest quality parts to install..... Not every brand has crappy cars.... The Starlet was awesome, the Tercel is/was sweet, the Corolla was very nice but I'm sure one of my Toyota teachers, when I still had the class, who drives a Ford Taurus POS, I bet he isn't too happy with the issues that came up with his car, mostly in probability to the fact it is a Ford. Even a mechanic I knew at Firestone Tire hated Fords, but highly appraised Chevrolets and other cars. I'm happy he did so. I just don't want to see any more Ford Exploders or any other big vehicles, like SUVs, on the road anymore either.... I watch the show Frasier with Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce and do they drive Fords..... NOOO... They drive Bimmers aka BMW's.... Alright Neu, I won't doubt you on the pain to get your hands in certain places for newer Toyotas, seeing as I had trouble reaching for certain spark plugs in a Highlander, etc. I was just saying that Ford cars are made made very reliable as japanese cars and I guess as a lot of Chevy's and GM's.... I love the late 70s and early 80s Chevy pickups. They looked nice. But at most, I loved the retro Toyota Stout pickups and the mid 70s Toyota Tacomas....... :P

ARCH, I do not need Ritalin, lol. I am perfectly sane, I just have my right as anybody else to despise certain brands or body styles of cars, trucks, or SUVs. :o

Oh and the black family that raised Token in the show South Park have a Lexus RX330 SUV...... :)

Just comes to show you that a lot of very smart people don't go after the car brands with very bad reliability reputations......... :D

I didn't forget, I just had no comment to say about Mopar! That makes me mad to hear someone telling me of their claim that I forgot something! :x mopar is good. I like 'em. Neu is, I hate to say it, wrong and if I were not meet you guys in person, me and the people in my class and the other mechanics I know would prove it to you guys.... BTW what do you mean they were in a "better position to do so." Is somebody either (aye-ther) forgetting themselves that I am a mechanic, or was, I worked in a Toyota dealership alongside some other techs. I may not have been a master, but I too, was learning the tricks of the trade...... I have the right to my facts and opinions but please don't put down GM/Chevy or any of the japanese makes. Also calling the Japanese "Japs" is considered racist by today's standards.......

This thread went downhill quick.

You've had two ford experiences then?

You were a toyota dealership tech...so you worked mostly on toyotas.

Well I worked on ALL brands of cars, and all of them have shitty, some of them have great.

adding this also, most people are very "brand loyal" (which is there's still lincoln's, mercury's, plymouth's, etc) so when you meet a chevy guy, he's going to hate ford, and ford guys will most likely hate chevy's. Usually GM guys are kind of left out, because most everyone hates GM. But seriously, this thread got retarded.

Mopar has plenty of problems too- see my recent postviewtopic.php?f=4&t=4117 My previous mopar job was a strut tower repair on a 2000 caravan. I could fit my fist thru the rust hole right over/next to the strut plate. Mopar calls it "cosmetic" and affects all 96-2000 minivans. I guess nobody has died yet.

Don't take a gm put down so serious. I actually like them. Mechanics like to eat steak too. You can have your opinions. Just don't let them get in the way of reality. You obviously have been sheltered from the auto industry as a whole, and for that I forgive you.

And just like the domestics, the japanese(happy mr. sensitive?) cars are not all created equal. Isuzu was always the worst in every aspect from my observations. They rusted to bits so fast you'd swear they were water soluble.
