Transmission / rear diff fluid

Post by terkill »

What is the best brand that you use?

 My step dad and I are curious, mostly him, if it is better to use manual transmission fluid or "gearbox fluid" for the transmission (My tercel is his and my first foreign car that we've legit tried to fix up) Just to make sure, since wasting is bad. I've been mostly a chevy / buick guy. Which one, what would be the BEST that you use :?:
:!: that also, would be able to put up with a Connecticut winter. [Both transmission fluid and rear diff fluid] :!:

Go with the factory spec weight in a full synthetic fluid. Mobil, Valvoline, and Schaeffers make good ones.

Really transmission fluid isn't a big deal on manual transmissions. It's the auto's you got to worry about.

Just follow the fsm and you'll be fine.

Your last qualifier would require synthetic. Much lower pour point. Reg is good to -26f and syn down to -60f.

It will reduce wear as well.

The syn is a good idea to protect your synchros at colder temps... And our synchros need all the help they can get.

BTW, don't believe the Autozone stores or site. We no longer carry trannies or tranny parts for the longitudinal engine Tercel's. Believe me, I've chased the numbers down and made the calls.
