New Radio and Drivers Window Issues

Post by ColoToyota »

Okay, two birds with one stone...hopefully!

How do I install a new radio? Want to pick one up from Best Buy, but I don't know what to purchase regarding the proper mounting bracket, wiring harness, etc. Anyone?

Also, rolling the drivers side window down is easy...rolling it up? that can almost break your arm. Any suggestions?

Thanks people!!

Welcome to the Club!
As to the radio - other members will probably have some info on "modern" radios. I have a good (to my ears, anyway) SONY pull-out in my p'up from the late '80s, and got a duplicate radio and "bracket" from eBay a few years ago for the T4WD - in case one croaks, I still have the other to insert.
There was a specific harness I used to connect to the OE wiring (OE speakers as well-sigh...). Unfortunately I do not recall which it was; however, it is commonly available at any car audio store. I think the store could advise, even for mature cars as ours.
The installation was pretty easy.

As to the regulator issue - do a Search on the site for window+regulator; there are a number of threads on this, and several members, xirdneh and notably keith have separate tutorials on these in the Repair Guides forum...
xirdneh also has a tutorial on door panel removal... Ditto for the lamented 3A-C Power.
Also do a Search for stereo with Typrus as the author - he has some good info on wiring there.

Thanks for the reply! Going to attempt to fix windows and FINALLY put a radio in it. Dying not listening to talk radio in the morning, and tunes coming home.

Yeah, you don't need any mounting adapter for the radio, aftermarket ones will mount directly. You'll need a Toyota wiring harness for your year range. Like Arch said, any place that carries car radios will have them, they're usually $5-15.

For my window, I just took off the door panel, removed the regulator, and cleaned and greased it. Works much better now. :)
