i need a Tercel 4wd wagon...badly
I had an '85 in high school and it was the best car I have ever owned...until a drunk hit it at 60 mph while it was parked. I had installed bigger tires and made my own lift of sorts by making homemade body spacers to fit the bigger tires. If anybody can help me find another one in running condition I would appreciate it greatly. i can fix body damage, but mechanical soundness is important. Thanks.

The guy going 60 was, pardon my French, a dickhead and going 60 was not going to help him with fuel efficiency. It would only worsen it. I think I might be able to help you find another one....
A little far away but here's an 86 in St. Louis:
http://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/857508808.html
But in Ohio, in Columbus, here's a another 86 which seems mechanically sound, despite the exterior like body:

I guess these are the only options right now that are close enough to you.
Somewhat of a drive for the Ohio one. You could have someone drive you to Westerville, buy and pick up the car and drive it back to Kalamazoo and fix the body, etc.

Well Neu, I just was trying to comment about the guy going 60mph - he was wasting fuel going that fast. I was trying to comment on the basis of the problem before I got to the part with helping the poor guy find a Terc.

Going 60 is hardly wasting fuel, hardly. And 60 was an estimate if he got HIT by someone.

I disagree Neu, but, you are entitled to your opinion. Going 60 is sort of gunning the engine so you are kind of wasting fuel, based on when my mom went 60, I saw some wasted fuel, maybe more of an increase, depending on different situations. Neu what do you think of the Tercels I, as a good samaritan, helped the innocent guy find? Do you oppose my choices?

60 is NOT gunning it. most interstates are 65 mph, most rural roads are 55 mph, 55 really means up to 62mph (radar guns have +/- 5mph error, but a cop wont ever admit that, and it also depends on how close the cop is to you, what the background noise is like, etc)
60 isn't even really speeding. Can everyone tell me that in a 55mph highway you dont go 60? everyone does. 55 is considered SLOW.

Re: i need a Tercel 4wd wagon...badly
55 is not slow, despite what the stupid cops or government say. 55 is a speed to go with the Terc to not wear it out or abuse it. I still disagree with you on the 60mph issue. But you too, are entitled to your opinion. That's why we live in America, I guess. I don't go 60 because the owner's manual advises against it and a stock unmodified Terc is NOT GOING 60MPH OR HIGHER..... Only a Terc that is turbo'ed, Port & Polished, Bore Increased, Stroke Increased, Cammed, Cranked, Hi-Perf. 3AC/4AC, etc. engine that was hi-perf. modified..... 55 is almost 60 so how slow can you be. When I go 50MPH on major highways, I always do for safety, etc., my Terc still goes too fast for me to handle almost, so, I don't think that 55 is slow..... That is a generalization and misconception... Matter of fact, my mother was thinking of writing a letter to the gov't to reduce the speed limits of major highways..... Those speeds could also encourage drunk drivers to go that fast and then crash and kill someone and then the blame rightly goes on the drunk driver and the speed limits... I go 50 to conserve fuel. It is wasteful to drive 60 or above:

So now you know that 55MPH saves gasoline!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: i need a Tercel 4wd wagon...badly
Sorry "dude" if your terc doesn't exceed 60 mph. Both of mine have maintained 80-85 just fine. On the interstate you will be run off the road at lesser speeds. Even the old folks will blow by you. Yes mileage will suffer. Not too bad with a smaller car though. My last trip up north I was driving real hard, sometimes just to keep with the flow, and got my worst mileage ever(post weber) 30.5mpg. I'll still take that! I do have oversized tires that shave about 200 rpm's off cruising speed. Otherwise, my peak mileage on the exact same trip before was 34.8. Normally I'm not in a hurry and get the better mileage but the only thing that slows me down is dark. Terc vs. deer/bear/moose could be very bad.
I feel I have done my part to save gas. I drive a small car mostly. I still have a couple real thirsty pigs but they see no more than 2k miles a year. I'm lucky to do 6-8k total a year! $20 gas can last me a week or two. Big societal changes need to take place to change fuel consumption habits. Why are we killing ourselves to live? I see people regularly putting on 30-50k a year. This isn't commercial use either. Often with a pig too. Who likes spending a measurable amount of their life stuck in traffic going to/from work? That is not living. If I spend 3 hours in my car per day I better be getting anywhere BUT WORK! IMHO Poor slaves.....
Lets also place blame for drunk driving incidents on the drunk part of it. Bad things can happen at much slower speeds. Don't ask me how I know this.
On the other hand you could be commended for your granny driving. When I was young, 60mph was time to hit 2nd gear! I just hope nobody on the road shoves your back bumper up your rear. Sometimes a good defense is a strong offense.

Re: i need a Tercel 4wd wagon...badly
I live in the country and I drive 55 on the average and am okay with that. I'm never in a hurry and feel sorry for people who think they need to drive faster.
I've got both our Tercels up to speed to see how fast they could go but that's about it. Maybe it's because I drove a VW Van for over 10 years but I never feel the need for speed.
I baby our Tercels too much maybe but I like my vehicles to last and the gas savings are amazing too.
