electrical and suspension
Hey
So I hooked up my roof lights and installed one of my new corner lights and now none of the corner lights work and the dash night green glow light doesn't either. Im suspecting its an inline fuse but the only ones i know that are easy to access is my battery acid fried fusebox under the hood. i was going to hunt through the owners manual but i was wondering if you guys had any tips or know of one under the dash that i would have to suspect that one is located. by the way, all the fuses are good in the hood.
oh yea and i went offroading ish, hit a huge bump, head hit the ceiling and my struts ripped through the towers, otherwise it stood up better than i expected. one actually slipped out of the boot the coil sits in and i had to jack it up and pry it back into place. i was wondering if any of you had any pictures i can look at to see what mine were originally so i can begin a semi rebuild. its almosst a plus since i need to find the weak points, so i can eventually make the car completely unbreakable.
and heres a picture of my lights when i got back

When you write "...struts ripped through the towers," do you mean that the struts actually pierced the rubber strut mounts in the inner fenders or ...?
You might check this AZ link - it has some excellent info and drawings of the suspension:

Re: electrical and suspension
correct, while looking at the engine compartment, the right side is missing some pieces on top and the left side ripped clean through, fell down hard, and pried itself against the fender well, i had to pry it back.
thanks for the link, at least i know its 53.00 for the one that broke, but it doesnt show how their supposed to look setup :/ neither does google images
ill add a picture after i finish up some things around the house

Re: electrical and suspension
what your looking at is the strut after its been pried back into place and the rubber mount is torn and half is almost on top of the strut, the other side looks damaged but not ripped through.
both are Severely dry-rotted.
edit: both look like that screw is newly exposed and i was wondering if there is supposed to be a cap there? the screws are the only clean part of the entire car,

if it were me I wouldn't pay that much for a new strut mount. You can get a used one off a blown or bad strut for next to nothing if you do your homework rightterkill wrote:correct, while looking at the engine compartment, the right side is missing some pieces on top and the left side ripped clean through, fell down hard, and pried itself against the fender well, i had to pry it back.

For what it's worth - KYB mounts $46.
Link to KYB on Shock Warehouse site: http://www.shockwarehouse.com/index.cfm ... _year=1986
I got these KYB items last Fall. Still free freight on any and all (not just a complete set).

Re: electrical and suspension
I always wondered if the upper strut mount could fail like this, but I had never seen it. Now I have. Do you suppose the bond between the rubber and metal was slowing failing (because of it's age), and the big impact just let it rip the rest of the way?
BTW, when I worked for a Nissan racing team, we completely replaced the upper rubber mount with an all aluminum one with a spherical bearing in the top. All metal to metal contact, no rubber. The upper strut mount has to pivot slightly to accommodate the slight lateral movement of the lower strut mount as it swings through its travel.
I know of no other lighting fuses other than what is in the fuse panel, it sounds like there might be a bad ground, or even a bad bulb that improperly shorts the lighting circuit. Sometimes with a bad bulb or a shorted fixture you get odd results because the power side is back feeding through the wiring, putting power in places that should not have it. I would check your ground, and which wires have power and which do not.

Re: electrical and suspension
i will begin the hunt for an all aluminum one since i want to make that car indestructable. ill also check out the bulbs, its probably that since i just installed corner lights right before that, possibly its shorting out.
yea its all stock and it took a huge hit. to tell you the truth im surprised thats the ONLY thing that happened besides the bump on my head from the roof and a random piece of trim on the door that decided that; that was its time to fall off.

Re: electrical and suspension
thanks for that, im probably going to get new coils and shocks that will take the offroad punishment. not bad only that for hitting a huge rut and getting some 3 foot airtime on the front bumper. my massive headache finally went away, haha

The interior fuse box is just to the left of your left foot as you are sitting in the car. It's on the wall, behind a small door. The back of the door should have a label telling which is which.
