Tell me where to stick these wires. (Photo at http://www.flickr.com/photos/23252854@N06/2658195177/ )
My Tercel has some kind of adjustable height steering column which really doesn't do much. It wound up back the way I found it at it's max height. What it did do was kill the low beam head lights. Upon a closer look I found one wire broke (maybe two) raising and lowering the column. Originally the red with yellow stripe broke. I may have popped off the red with green stripe and blue-black band removing the assembly, trying to get to the original problem.
I would think this is a simple fix, just locate the break where the wires came from. But I'll be (bad word) if I can find it. There is no clear mark or damage where they popped off. I've looked closely at the switch itself.. no luck. The wiring scheme/drawings are good but not quite good enough for one such as myself.
Anyone?

Well awesome... I appreciate it. You have to remove the steering wheel and the plastic over the column. The photo is of the backside of the assembly for the lights turn signals, dimmer etc. I had the idea to go look at one so I called three junk yards here to see if they had a Tercel but no luck.

i wasn't able to completely taking it apart without dismantling the wiring setup to my light bar that runs around it, sorry, but from what i saw from the best angle i could get was that wires that looked like those went in right next to each other..

Use a magnifying glass if you have to? If you can see a "break" where those wires were soldered on the ends...you can find the matching spot where they were soldered?Mondo wrote:I would think this is a simple fix, just locate the break where the wires came from. Re: Tell me where to stick...
It's odd that you lost your low beams......mine did the same thing back in December. I haven't fixed the problem yet. The only causes I could think of were either my installation of driving lights, or something in either the steering column or the headlight switch. The driving lights were installed for at tleast 6 mos. before the headlight problem appeared, though. I was going to disconnect the driving lights, but maybe now I'll take the steering column apart and see if anything is messed up in there.
Just in the last few days, my stereo has been losing power when the switch is turned off.....not every time, but most times. I hate electrical problems.....never have been any good at tracking them down.

Took a couple of pics of my spare unit - not too clear or close up - my good camera died... I find if you load the pic into a something like IRFanView and zoom a bit and sharpen a bit it will give you a closer look. The red/green wire solders to the brass tab directly below the white/black wire (first pic), and the red/yellow wire solders to the down-angled brass tab hanging off the south end of the relay that is housed in the clear plastic (second pic).
