Hi, new here but have been on club4ag as ae86chico for years.
The Tercel problem of the moment is that the gaskets that are contact cemented to the air cleaner housing (8.75" nominal ID)and lid have grown too large in diameter (grown to about 9.25") to seal well to the air filter. I have run a bunch of searches online hoping to just find a thicker air filter and do without them, no luck. Short of having some custom rubber gaskets made, is there another solution? Sure I could just snip & shorten them but I'm concerned that a dirt leak may develop at the point where I butt them back together.

It's rainy and dark and muddy o/s, so I won't check Goldie's - but (and don't laugh) do you think some of the various sizes of adhesive home window/door seal would work? They are available in a plethora of sizes, widths, and thicknesses.

I dId a couple of things...tried to reglue them to fit better...espec for the air pickup for the air injection reeds...where it was getting air from outside the filter including insects that clogged the reeds. Now just run the thin foam rubber adhesive backed stuff top and bottom on each new filter...might make more sense to try and put it OVER the rubber on the housing? Crushes down real easy and makes a good seal...I just buy the cheapo stuff at a discount store.

then added some more Goop at butt joint and put a piece of plastic wrap over the glue and installed the cover. The plastic wrap keeps it from sticking to the air filter while allowing the glue to conform and dry. Later you can remove the plastic wrap. First one I did was about five years ago and still looks great.
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

xirdneh: Funny but that is what I wasa thinking of doing also. Decided to check the local dealer. Surprise, available, for $33 each!! My local auto parts store has an inside line on yota parts and he is getting me a set for $50. Spendo, but it will be nice.
