New owner 1984 sr5 wagon need help clutch pcv wheelcylinders
Hello I just purchaced a 1984 trecel 4x4 and it needs a clutch, pcv valve, and rear wheel cylinders. I was hoping for some helpfull pointers as I plan on doing the repair myself. Also I was hoping for comments on other tire wheel options. nissan datsun mazda early celica stock wheels 4x114.3 what works and what does not as well as the largest tire dia. with stock suspension. thanks.
I just want to hear it run
pretty sure your wheels are 4x100. And yes the 4 bolt celica and corolla and accord and civics are almost all 4x100 as well. You can double check here, it will tell you most all bolt patterns.
You can probably fit a 155-175 14" on there max....I was unable to fit a 205/55/15 in my terc......even with the fenders cut so definitely draw the line well before 15"....pretty sure any 13" will fit nicely.
pcv valve is peanuts to replace.
Rear wheel cylinders are easy....provided you let the bolts and brake line fittings soak for a while...and crack them loose with vicegrips so you don't strip the bolts......and I have yet to successfully change brake cylinders without snapping the steel brake line so be prepared...maybe pre-buy a couple just in case...they are cheap. Then you will have to bleed the brakes after.....but it is easy as long as you have a helper.
As for the clutch....it's very straightforward. I firmly believe that it is easier to pull the motor halfway out and change the clutch then it is to do it from the bottom.....but that is just me (I've done a clutch re and re in 4 hours...motor out and all). Just take your time and follow the manual. Pay close attention to torque specs

I've used 185-70 13 and 185-70 14, believe it or not, the 14's actually fit better. The 13's rubbed the inner fender well but the 14's didn't. The widest part of the tire is a little further away from the center so it missed a spot in the inner fender well.
Don't use vice grips on a brake line, get a set of flair nut wrenches, they are worth the money. You can get a reasonable priced set at AutoZone or Harbor Freight. Get new wheel cylinders, they are a bear to rebuild and the rebuild kit costs nearly as much as a new one. It really depends on what you have available, i.e. transmission jack or cherry picker.
As for the clutch, its six of one, half dozen of the other. I've done it both ways. If your new clutch doesn't come with an alignment tool, you can get one from AutoZone for $1.98. Order it when you order the clutch kit.

Welcome to the Club!
Check out this link - very helpful - I have a post about 4 or 5 down with costs from 2006 - they should not be too different now.

I heartily echo keith's mention of the flare wrenches; they are pretty inexpensive. If you have a helper, the bleeding should be easy. I bought a MityVac instead of remarrying, though.
If you get a MityVac, AVOID BRAKE FLUID THROUGH THE PUMP!
