Radiator swap options??? does a AE95 radiator fit?

Post by Challenger »

My radiator is leaking! And I can´t find a descent used one from a tercel. Do any other toyota or non-toyota radiators swap easilly into 4wd Tercels? Does anybody know if a AE95 radiator fits in a tercel? I think it is a bit bigger and has the electric fan on the rear of the radiator. I was thinking about using the original tercel fan and sensor since they both work fine...
Does anybody know about other possible radiator donors?

Thanks,
Bjarki

somebody used a Hyundai Excel radiator (Aluminum) but I'm not sure if it was only the core or the whole thing. it might be worth looking around a junkyard and finding some radiators with similarly positioned outlets/inlets/dimensions. can anyone clarify?

I have a toyota camry (not sure what year, I'm gonna guess '93) radiator in my tercel with a 4ac motor. It's a larger rad, but the hose connections are in the right spots so it was not too hard to install. I just had to rig up some extra mounts and the fan temp sensor did not have a spot in the rad.
I put it in while doing the head gasket, you can check the pics here: viewtopic.php?t=2524&highlight=head+gasket
good luck

That looks like a Gen2 rad, less a Gen 3. http://img244.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... gu8an2.gif
Thats a 1MZ-FE engine in a 91 if I am not mistaken.

I'll run out and look at my 95's rad real quick and do some basic measurements.

Upper connection is way off. Just glancing would say it'd come into the timing cover or alt on the 3AC. Keep in mind mine is a 5SFE and I can't speak for the 2 or 3MZ-FE engine's rads.

Thanks for the tips.

I´ve put some radiator stop leak in the radiator. I also didn´t fasten the cap tightly. I am hoping that it will keep the radiator from building up pressure. I´ve been driving it that way for a week with no problems. Have just added a little water once. Hopefully it will hold up untill I´ll find the time to change it 8)

I´ll let you know if I end up doing some exotic swap...
