The car won't come out of 4wd.
You push on the lever and it won't move into 2wd.
I haven't worked on one before so am unsure where to start.
Any help would be appreciated.
tks

Re: Won't come out of 4wd
put it in reverse and back up (do it somewhere where you can get some speed)sdw wrote:The car won't come out of 4wd.

while car is moving push in clutch and try to move it out of 4wheel drive
this has worked for me everytime on several tercels
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

Alright here's the deal. I've found that since there's no differential between front and back with my tercel or my GM pickup, the wear of the tires front to back dictates how easy it is to shift out of 4wd. If you rotate the tires regularly, you can feel when the driving wheels (front in the tercel, rear in my truck) have worn down to where the're even with the others. There's a three week period (for me atleast) when there's no binding. After that, its up to you how much extra drag you want to impose on the car in 4wd mode. This drag also puts force on the drive train. If, in the Tercel, the fronts are larger and you'er going forward, you can try shifting out of 4wd while entering or just after leaving a turn. If they're smaller, you have to back up. Bein' as I'm a lazy mechanic and all, I usually just use front wd and only go into 4wd when I'm on dirt.
