so, i put some non-resistor NGK plugs into my tercel, I figured with the coil getting on in age and not working so well it would be a good way of compensating without spending alot of money.
the plugs i used were plain ass BP5ES, not even V-power, just the plain old plugs.
idle is better on a cold engine, but when the car warms up it runs about the same as before so i guess i have a non-spark related gremlin to track down. freeway-speed acceleration has improved, which should be good for the drives to work.
next oil change i plan on taking them out and checking the condition to see if they are too hot or too cold. since fuels have changed in the past 25 years, and the tercel dosn't run like it did in 1983 I think some minor changes to what is recommended will be OK. I'm also thinking of running colder plugs and increase ignition timing to balance things out.
