running rich?

Post by simon84 »

I have had a few comments from people about the foul exhaust from my tercel in the past few months. A friend on the coast with a tercel just relayed a similar story and thinks her tercel is running rich.
Any tips on how to change/set the fuel misture?
Otherwise my tercel runs pretty good for her age and 320k on her second motor.

thanks

where is the O2 sensor, and how does one test it?
How do you replace the AAP diaphragm? Can you get that part or is it part of a rebuild kit?

Thx

Best bet is to SEARCH. Since it runs good and it runs rich you probably don't have vac leaks. Might have a plugged EGR. As far as the O2...you can find the wire on the pass side near the wheel well and you can put a digital multimeter on it to see if it is cycling right...think its 7Xs in 10 secs...it's in the FSM. DON'T disconnect it...just slice a bit of insulation off the wire..but not where it has the grounded cover...forget whether the Terc has this.

As to the AAP...not saying it is not available separately - just that I was never able to find it by itself.
I found it only as part of the GP Sorenson kit, mentioned here in several threads. The number is GP-Sorensen / Carburetor Kit 96-612, as shown in AutoZone and Advance, and probably in your Canadian Auto/Princess Auto stores (I'm naturally unfamiliar with them).

As to the oxygen sensor:

Lots of threads here in the Club as well.
