Power Steering question
Power Steering question
Hi everyone, I picked up a 1988 tercel 4wd wagon and I have a power steering fluid leak. The Lines that going around the front of the car are shot. Rusted and leaking everywhere. I can't find any replacements what are you guys doing for this problem.
Thanks in advance.

Take off all the lines and find a farm tracktor repair shop, they can make up any hose and tube you need from raw stock. Take in all of the old fittings, they can often be reused.
And there is always the junk yard.
good luck.

PartsAmerica has the pressure hoses. You need 2. 91589 (From Pump) and 71876 (to Gear)
$45.94 and $19.99 respectively.
The from pump one comes with the tube that goes along the front of the car. Its all high-pressure stuff. Power steering can see 3000+PSI in some vehicles.
As for the return line... That I believe you'll need custom bent. The hose itself is pretty standard. The return side has little pressure. Maybe 30PSI? Might want to install an inline filter while you're in there?

Re: Power Steering question
i know your post is very old, but do you remember where you got the replacement metal power steering line under your radiator? or does anyone know where to get one today? the toyota part # is 44410 16011. toyota tells me it is discontinued and NLA. one my car it is the lower line(pressure) with the threaded fittings at each end. has anyone tried using an all rubber hose to replace this? thanks
Re: Power Steering question
Probably not what you are looking for, but I have heard of others taking their specs to a hydraulics repair shop to have such hoses custom made. It's more of a hassle than simply ordering the part of course, but not a horribly expensive option.

Re: Power Steering question
Replacing it with all high pressure rubber hose should work fine, you will reuse the metal fittings at both ends (you can even cut off the old ferrule and just use hose clamps instead). Just make sure you use tie-wraps (cable ties) to hold it in place, and use something to pad it if it goes over any sharp edges.
