i have an extream cold start problem, it take probly 5 min of cranking for it to even start to want to fire, weber 4ac. if there wasnt an optima in it theres no way a normal battery would crank this long.

Check the choke.
Check your Dizzy connections. Ohm out your coil as well. Its possible theres a broken wire somewhere that when cold, they've contracted enough to not have continuity, but after a while of cranking and putting some heat in the system they expand enough to re-form contact. I have seen that before. So ohm it while cold.
So obviously pumping the pedal a few times doesn't help...? And not pumping it probably doesn't work either? I might look at your electronics even more.

I'm having a similar issue with the new Weber. It didn't have this issue with the stock carburetor. Although I think the stocker was dumping way too much fuel in, I think the Weber is working just the opposite. If I pump the throttle 4-5 times before turning it over, it seems to start with some provokation from the gas pedal. But if I don't pump it before turning it over, it just kicks over for a few rpm and then dies no matter how much I try to pump it while cranking.
I think it has something to do with either the fuel pump or perhaps the float levels, as I assume that with my fuel pressure regulator set at 5.5 psi it should be enough.
I think it was monday this last week that I had to jump start it with my other car before I figured out how to get it going. And yes, the choke is working just fine. There's just no fuel flowing!

I had this problem with a sticking fuel pump and OEM carb. While you would expect there to be fuel left in the bowl...there didn't seem to be any..and it wasn't in the engine or on top the motor. So the pump has to fill it up I guess...but cold it didn't pump worth a darn....and it was noisy when cold because it wasn't following the cam right...until it loosened up.
I now have a manual choke...but it is pretty finicky when starting it...not like the autochoke, which worked just fine.
