Transmission Cooler Lines

Post by Staats »

Good afternoon all! I was wondering if anyone had any advice as far as what type of lines to get to replace the lines from my 3 speed auto Tranny (81 terc) to the tranny cooler and back... Anyone have any idea what type of pressure the system puts out? Thanks!

An auto parts store can tell you. I think you need several hundred psi rating IIRC.

yes but some hose is rated higher than others. For example the fuel line and the vapor recovery lines will not handle the same pressure as the brake lines, but they might look similar. You just need go to an auto parts store and ask for a 5 mm (or whatever-that is just a guess) auto trans cooler lines. Confirm it will work for a auto transmission cooler line. Some rubber is not compatible with ATF (it will eat it away), and some hoses will not take the higher pressures.

Get new stainless steel clamps while you are at it, those spring clips that come on the car are almost useless after they have been reused. I usually replace mine whenever I take them off for any reason, especially in the high pressure applications. The screw-on clamps are usually easier to take off and replace in difficult access areas.

I've noticed a drop in the quality of the screw clamps lately, at least the ones at Autozone. The "wings" that fold around behind the band and secure the screw to the band are only about half the size they used to. I've had a bunch fail on me as I screwed them down. I've begun to use new spring clamps. They are a pain but they are more reliable than the screw clamps I've seen and used lately.

Think China. DON'T use ss clamps unless they have an Murcan brand stamp on them? Can't mess around with these?

I bought a whole bag full from Tractor Supply...some work OK but are doubtful. I just use these in non critical areas.

Replaced tranny line fine. Thanks for all replies. I cut a small piece off and took it to autozone... At first, the moron behind the counter tried to sell me vacuum line, even though I explicitly asked for transmission line... It took soo long dealing with the guy behind the counter that the manager sold me ten foot for $1.25! :)
